RE: Character Level Cap - Bertram Anders - 02-05-2014 Yes, it would be a fantastic edition for sub-races as well. I could see it as being a great boon. This had really turned into a great thread as opposed to what I thought it was going to be. I would suggest though that there would be a level limit at which you could no longer turn off xp gain to get notoriety. Level 15 or 16 just as an example. RE: Character Level Cap - Bertram Anders - 02-05-2014 Mmhmm. RE: Character Level Cap - C1QP0X - 02-05-2014 I'm so glad there are others, dungeon masters even that support the idea. Hopefully Thayan will surprise us with the option in the distant future. Just as an example...say...1 month real-time. And when they have XP turned off, they earn notoriety at twice the normal rate. Implementing this would be even more work, but if there would be an enormous outpouring of support for it or something like it (or for simply turning off XP gains), I could put it on the wishlist at least (with no promises at this time that it would become a reality, however). Wishlist it! Yeah, on most PW's I wouldn't see the point of something like that, but here that would be an excellent option, considering notoriety, and one of our advertisements being, that notoriety matters more than level (somewhere in the player guide it flat-out says that, if I recall correctly, that a low level character could be more notorious than a high level one), but currently, there's *very, very* little chance of having that much notoriety without also being high level... this would solve that as an option at least. Yeah, wishlist it! Though I'd say it does seem like it should be fairly low priority, all things considered... RE: Character Level Cap - C1QP0X - 02-06-2014 My idea was to have a dwarf that hung around town looking for "new blood" to promote exploration of "the ever-troubled catacombs" and also insure that as long as I'm playing this server and so long as nothing is going on with my main, Cham Jarnes, then newer folk from 1-4 or so would have a notorious "X (insert lowbie creature name here) hunter" to go to for help, leading their parties and such. Anyways, that was my sort of inspiration for suggesting such a thing. Also, there have been many counts of fame and infamy in the Forgotten Realms where characters have only ever reached low to mid levels of proficiency in their class(es). RE: Character Level Cap - C1QP0X - 02-09-2014 @Thayan: Would it be easier to trade experience for notoriety? Maybe have something in the character options for that. EDIT: Just going to add, for whatever reason, the method I just suggested kind of dumbs down the feature a lot and it's just not nearly as cool.. IMO.. RE: Character Level Cap - Miscr3ant - 02-09-2014 This reminds me of a character I had on another server, a Cleric, who was young. I played him so that his "effective" healing level was near his age; I did not want him at 18Y 2M 14D being able to resurrect. :P For a while, I had DM's bump me back down as needed to keep that in check as I would level. However, they also had a server rule where you had to be within, oh, 5 levels or so, of your party members to party, and I was getting left behind as my friends progressed. So I came up with the bright idea of gaining my levels...but not filling any of the spell slots over level 4 spells. Now, I could do nothing about spell DC's, damage dealt, etc, since my character level was 20, but I could affect how much Clerical "power" my PC had by that simple control. It was not until a couple of personal quests that I allowed him to slowly gain power (i.e. additional spell levels). Remembering that, and looking at your situation (similar), I am wondering, if for your suggestion, it would be easier to script that you can actually request to reduce your levels, without affecting your notoriety score? :-/ I would think so, as it seems your notoriety system should be independent of hard-coded Bioware XP. This would be more of a reward to people grind/powergame/etc to get XP rather than those who either interact with others or otherwise take a more balanced approach to gaining XP. |
