Does the enchantment forge still subtract experience during crafting? It says so on the losing experience section of the player guide but the forge itself in-game doesn't indicate one will lose experience during crafting.

Yes it does:

But if you're somehow not getting this, post a problem report with steps to repro how you are not getting that message.

If I'm right, what he's saying is the forge no longer tells you the xp it will cost, just the gold cost for upgrading. It used to tell you both.
I just remember the cost in xp is 10% of the cost in gold.

That is correct. I have made things. If you have the gold and xp you can make the item without knowing how much xp you lost. Luckily I never got the above message as It seemed I was not that close between levels.

If the 10% is still accurate then that helps.

On a side note. Since many exploits used to get xp in the past have been modified, would it be possible to show the xp amount since leveling is now tied to time in game and note?
Time in game and note still would not be known just the ding sound.

Okay, thanks Thayan.

The second paragraph in this initial feature thread has been updated as of 9/20 to reflect a change to once again display the amount of an XP reward a PC receives - with the important exception of combat XP which will still be displayed as "You have gained XP".

RE: Experience System - Gatalis - 12-04-2014

Two questions,

Does using that "disable XP" thing actually disable XP gains, or just the leveling from XP gains? For instance, if I wanted to stay at level seven, would disabling XP also disable my ability to gain XP for use in the forge? (This was an issue I ran into with Shea- early on she leveled up too fast, but her equipment didn't follow the same progression since most of the leveling was from dungeon raids/spreading the love of !xp commands, so she had to go around enslaving a ton of NPCs just to use the forge to keep XP in check while she got equipment up to date).

Second, if you clearly have enough XP to level, but can't because notoriety is not high enough, do you retain the "excess XP?"

For instance, I'm relatively sure Shea has enough experience to level up once if not twice, when she does level up, is that excess experience simply lost, or is it kept in the system? (I'm assuming it's kept in the system from what I've read, just wanted to double check).

It disables XP gains. Although, if you lose XP due to enchanting or sacrificing some to return from the Fugue, you can re-accumulate XP up to what you had when you turned it off.

You cannot accumulate more than the total amount of XP to reach the next level, unless your PC was one of the unlucky few that was reduced from level 16+ by the enervation curse forced upon them by a major dickhead when this system was implemented back in February 2014.

This is to bring notice to a change that has been in place for over half a year. The first paragraph under the Level Progression section of the initial post in this thread has been updated to this -

Quote:Level Progression
The Thay PW has been created by drawing heavily on source lore from the 2nd and 3rd edition rules and source material. In that lore, it is rare for high-level individuals to be encountered. Therefore, Thay has been designed as a place of adventure for low to mid-level PCs, with high-level PCs being very uncommon. To facilitate this, the amount of XP required to advance from one level to the next in this PW is not the same as in default NWN and D&D.
