RE: Religion in Faerun Q&A - Balanor - 11-05-2009 It's by design since that is the Cleric alignments laid out in the Faiths & Pantheons sourcebook. Although what's the official word on Druids & Rangers in the D&D or Forgotten Realms setting - for them to receive spells or special ranger-specific powers, can they have any of the worshipper alignments? Or do they have to have the same alignments of the actual clergy? Even if they are a nature-based deity? Basically, are Druids & Rangers supposed to be limited to the same alignments as the actual clerics too? RE: Religion in Faerun Q&A - theredknight_x - 11-06-2009 According to the 3.0 Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting pg. 24 "Unlike clerics, druids, and paladins, Faerunian rangers do not have to choose a patron deity until they reach 4th level and acquire divine spellcasting ability (without a patron deity, a ranger cannot cast spells) Many rangers choose a patron deity before then, but others start by devotion to a ranger's way of life instead of to one of the gods. Rangers and druids have similar preferences for deities, although some rangers with odd interests (such as hunting undead) choose different patrons." Though not exactly specific, it seems to insinuate that not 'Only' nature gods are needed to be worshipped for rangers to obtain divine spells, it's just the norm. Makes sense to me considering some rangers do devote themselves to non-nature based life quests and what not. Still looking through, but for now this was under the class descriptions for faerunian specific info in the campaign sourcebook, 3.0 edition. RE: Religion in Faerun Q&A - Bishop Edward - 11-06-2009 I would agree with theredknight (& the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting Guide) Rangers shouldn't be -required- the way that druids are... RE: Religion in Faerun Q&A - LooseWilly - 11-07-2009 How about Hoar? Not sure if He works for a ranger, but He certainly does vengeance. Shar is also big on vengeance. Of course, you'd have to check on alignment and ranger/druid allowances (the sourcebooks list both as willing to take N worshippers, but neither takes N for clergy... but, as rangers aren't "proper clergy"... maybe either would work, depending on whether the vengeance is dark-Shar or impersonal-Hoar in nature). In the end... I am going to delete the character and continue playing my others - I have an Sun Elf Wizard, a Human Fighter (In the legion too), a Halfling Thief, and Zephris... So... I think I'll just keep these guys. :) (11-07-2009, 03:09 AM)LooseWilly Wrote: How about Hoar? RE: Religion in Faerun Q&A - Bishop Edward - 11-07-2009 Regardless of your decision it doesn't change the fact that Rangers in the Forgotten Realms shouldn't have to choose a 'nature' deity the same way a Druid does... Such as a ranger of Kelemvor who hunts undead... RE: Religion in Faerun Q&A - Thayan_Knight - 06-28-2010 I know this is an old topic, but I figured I'd post here to help if someone else ran into this problem. "Most deities can grant spells from the cleric spell list, the ranger spell list and from three or more domains. Deities with levels in the druid class can grant spells from the druid spell list..." pg. 8, Faiths and Pantheons. Wizards of the Coast, 2002 RE: Religion in Faerun Q&A - EdinSumar - 07-21-2010 I am back and able to answer any and all questions on Religion in Faerun. Do not be shy! RE: Religion in Faerun Q&A - EdinSumar - 07-22-2010 Here is a great resource for Ilmatarii, I would post it in the Ilmatarii subforum, but they do not have one currently, since the faction does not exist. Still, individual characters -could- be Ilmatarii, so I am posting it for your benefit: http://davidcwood.com/adnd/campaign/bloodstone/ilmater.php Please note, much of this is canon, but by no means all of it. It would be prudent to ask here before incorporating any of it into your characters backstory or mannerisms, it is a great resource though, so you should check it out! RE: Religion in Faerun Q&A - Balanor - 07-26-2010 This was changed awhile ago, but as an FYI, rangers no longer have to select a Nature-based deity when selecting their god. Druids still do have to choose from the nature-base deities though. Also, rangers will have to match the alignment restrictions of the god's clergy. So no Lawful Good Rangers of Talos for example. |
