RE: HTF - Benefits and Losses - TheShadowEntity - 04-15-2015 See... The reason i wanted to know was because it carries a pretty big risk of dyeing of thirst hunger in comparison to the tiny benefits it currently offers. HTF had killed me twice since i joined here... It has never saved me once.. that's sorta a bad sign for the usefulness of the system. So much so that i actually turned it off on one of my pc's just a few hours ago. The benefits simply are not worth it. This is my reasoning summed up. Good - HTF 1. Gives a tiny amount of hp when you eat / drink Bad - HTF 1. High risk of dyeing if you need to go afk because the counter keeps ticking even in afk mode. (this alone killed me once) 2. Not cost effective in comparison to healing supplies . (i can get more HP and uses by buying a cheap bandage for around the same amount) 3. Food costs money... Its a constant drain on your coin no matter what. 4. Food & Drink weigh you down. Hit Points gained should be up to 8 with rich food and 6 with a rich drink. Although I would give this as a plus i dont feel i can because i have never seen either of those things happen while i was playing. Food has never given me more than 3 hp and drink has never cured poison. I will admit that may just be luck but i am dubious to include something i cannot vouch for despite using the system as long as i have. RE: HTF - Benefits and Losses - Animayhem - 04-15-2015 The trick is watching the bars periodically. With Marister, I have HTF on. If i am going to go afk I have him rest , eat and drink. Yea resting can be tricky if you are involved with rp. For instance the rp outside the citadel the other night. Marister didnt have a chance to rest yet by periodically eating and drinking he was able to slow down the progression. By the time the rp was over, his fatigue bar was half red. If you do not wish to watch the bar status on the server screen, then HTF is not for you. Marister has high healing skill but sometimes not enough and can fail at bandaging so he either uses a potion or has something to drink and eat which raises his hp and he can apply bandages successfully. RE: HTF - Benefits and Losses - LifeLikeSage - 04-15-2015 Don't forget that you can always be paranoid and type: !htf That will show you the bars manually in between ticks. RE: HTF - Benefits and Losses - LooseWilly - 04-15-2015 Just FYI ... water will cure at least 1 hp per drink even if the PC is not thirsty. At higher levels, or just higher levels of thirst, I often see healing of up to 6 hp per drink of water (with 5 drinks/canteen... free refills at any stream or well). For my characters under about 7th level... this becomes a much more economical solution than burning through stacks of bandages (and even once a regen item is acquired, a couple of 6 hp swigs from a canteen make hiking the roads of Thay alone feel a hair less perilous). Food tends to be on the order of 1 to 3 hp (though none of my PCs will touch one of those herbal elven crackers... which I suspect are liable to cure more). Veybold often sees a cure of 1 hp from a swig of rum, if he's thirsty enough. I would also vote to make rat meat rich... seems liable to be gamey and rats must be full of nutrients just to survive. Also, it makes the not-insignificant chance of contracting a disease from the meat even more of an irresistable temptation. I would also suggest that the ales and wines should at least count as poor nutrition... they're at least 85% water, after all - and very refreshing! RE: HTF - Benefits and Losses - Hellstrom - 04-16-2015 The healing is great when you've got a few points left to heal and a bandage would be a waste. Just take a drink of water or eat something. Or for when you're low level, "Near Death", and you'd likely miss your bandaging DC, eat and drink to get to Badly Wounded and don't waste bandages on failed DCs. I'm surprised at the number of players who are saying they go AFK for so long that they starve or die of thirst... that little green protective barrier isn't proof against everything. And if another PC accidentally bumps you, it can move you and remove the AFK status and leave you wide open to slavers or assassins. If you're going to be gone for that long, why not just log off completely and help reduce server lag for people who are actually playing? I for one am usually not afk "that long" however if HTF is already moderately low and i have not noticed it then it very well could kill my pc in a tick or two. Also, player count is really not an issue for lag currently. If anything the higher number draws players where a lower number would not. I would like to add that in my case, I resolved to simply turn off HTF in the end. To me that was a tough decision because i oocly feel food and drink adds to rp. However i can still rp that my pc eats and drinks and now not have to worry about watching that bar tick away. This may not be a problem for everyone but it was becoming a hassle in my case. I Want to thank everyone for the info on this topic and the help provided :) |
