RE: Consequences - Poet - 08-22-2011 My experience was merely an example of how a person can sometimes get too trigger happy with the attack button when there are other options. I've spoken with the person and all is swell. It wasn't meant to be me complaining, as Purulent Carcass so in-eloquently put it. While you scattered a few "maybes" and "ifs" in to your post, I'd appreciate if you didn't passive aggressively attempt to forgo my word. The walking through the conversation was an example. There isn't a dispute or attack between me and said person; we're fine. We also both recognize that attacking someone, whether they're new or not, should not be the first option. But, if you're truly in want of PvP initiated over such meager reasons, then you may as well consider changing it to an arena server. RE: Consequences - Purulent Carcass - 08-22-2011 Complaining isn't a problem if you have a just reason for it. I did not intend to single you out Poet, merely using that example. Like I stated, I do not assume that either you who felt aggrieved or the party that attacked you was guilty of anything, and posed that there are always possibilities that there is more going on than meets the eye. It's reasonable to assume that things happened exactly as you described, but my warning was issued to assure that this simply isn't normal so the benifit of the doubt should be given to all. Try not to take offense. The fact is, Poet, you are also new here as well and have had less experience with the ins and outs of the types of harshness that happens on this server. There are no madcap slayings happening here and as I said before in my post, its VERY RARE. RE: Consequences - Poet - 08-22-2011 I understand what you're saying, and I agree with it. However, it isn't about such a wide circumstance as you're attempting to turn it in to. Quote:if you transition into an area and are forced to walk between two people due to walkmesh or pathing issues (both being OOC) and NOT because you are being a dick.... is it still ok to kill the foo'? This is a straight forward concern, just as mine was a straight forward experience. There isn't any underhanded tactics behind it. A person should not be attacked for walking in between conversing people. Ignore the variables you're trying to add to the formula, Purulent. If a person walks in between your conversation, curses you out, attacks you, etc, whatever other reasons you'd like to add, then I'm certain PvP could be a viable option. However, as Thayan and several others agreed with, at its basic level, it shouldn't be an offence worthy of PvP. A completely OOC post: Vortar -MAY- be the most violent character on the server but I certainly wouldn't have him beat anyone for walking into a conversation I was having...but probably would emote *stares at the newcomer* and based on their reaction would decide what would happen next... a quick *pardon me* *nods* *bows* or something would suffice to make it a non-issue.... saying nothing would be crappy RP but would either be met with, "what's your hurry?" or ignored. A *stares back* *smirks* *gives the finger* response would probably earn that person an angry reaction, inquiry.. or beating. I think that's apropriate. Attacking them on subdual with NO rp would be an over reaction I think...and attacking them on full damage with NO rp would be breaking the PVP policy here. Hope that helps. RE: Consequences - Valiant_Destiny - 09-07-2011 Just thought this fit in.... "The laws of Thay are simple, and the penalties are brutal. They are mostly concerned with establishing who's in power. The tharchions and zulkirs consult a set of tomes known as the Library of Law when faced with a serious problem. However, most of the time, the authorities ignore these books in favor of expediency. These are the most important laws of Thay. - Only Red Wizards may wear red robes, so that all shall be able to identify them instantly. - Do not steal from other Thayans or harm their belongings, especially their slaves. - Do not kill or harm another Thayan. (In practice, this means, "Do not kill or harm anyone from your class or above.") Obey the orders of your betters. The proscription against wearing red robes is unusual, but Thayans take it so seriously that most refuse to dress in any clothing of that color. The penalty for being caught in such garb is execution on the spot. It's rumored that some of the forces of the Red Wizards always carry a spare red robe or two. This is then supposedly thrown onto the body after the guards have killed someone, giving them an excuse for their actions. The laws of Thay are enforced by whomever claims to have jurisdiction over the people involved or the location in which the disturbance occured. In Thay, just about every Red Wizard employs slaves or commoners as private guards. The more powerful the person, the more numerous and more skilled the guards. In Thay, might makes right, and the Red Wizards have plenty of might. The trouble comes when anyone group of guards claims jurisdiction over any particular issue. This happens often, and when it does, and fight usually breaks out. (Unapproachable East 3rd Ed., 2003. Pg 161) |
