Weapon Minimal Level Question - Pluto - 04-27-2012
Maia won one of those +1 enhancement gems at the jousting tourney a couple of weeks back, but I have a question in regards to it's use.
Currently her weapon already has a minimal level of 14 for usage and she herself is 14 as well, if she uses the gem does it raise the weapon level to a level above what she can use? Normally I would think that it does, but then I started to think the max level on the whole minimal level thing is 14 anyway so I might be safe in using it.
The dang thing is buring a hole in her pocket and I don't want to screw up using it.

That is a danger with those enchantment gems. Using them does not tell you beforehand what the new Item Level Restriction will be - unlike how the enchantment forges tell you before you apply an enchantment. So you could end up with a powerful weapon that would not be useable until your PC gains more levels.
In some cases you may be able to get an idea of the new ILR by putting the item in an enchantment forge and adding the same enchantment as the gem would provide (without actually applying them). In cases where you are trying to increase an already existing enchantment with one of those gems though, or if the power on the gem is unique and not available through the forge, this may not be possible though. So if you can't find out at the enchantment forge, I’d recommend either using a character/item generator module outside of Thay to create an item with the exact same properties your item would have after the enchantment gem is applied, or else just create it in the toolset with the properties it would have and find out what the ILR is there.

Yeah, I just raised a weapon of one of my characters to lvl 18... well I have a goal now. Level 18. :P

Looks like I'll be holding onto the thing for awhile longer yet while I research this some more or get some levels under her belt.
