Hunger, Thirst, and Fatigue System - Balanor - 05-03-2009

By default, one of Thay’s realistic systems called Hunger, Thirst, and Fatigue (HTF) is applied to all new characters. HTF requires players to eat food items, drink liquid items, and rest in order to avoid penalties and/or death.
For those that hate HTF systems though, please see the bottom of this post!

This system is implemented in a way in which green bars representing your Hunger, Thirst, and Fatigue levels will be displayed to you periodically. Make sure these bars never drop too low by eating, drinking, and resting on a regular basis. If your HTF level drops too low, your character will begin to suffer penalties to various modifiers.

It is common to purchase food and drink in inns and taverns. You may also cook fresh meat at campfires and ovens and fill a traveling canteen with water from wells, fountains, streams, or lakes. You may rest near beds or by setting up a campfire (see Camping and Resting for details).

HTF is determined by the temperature of the area and the difficulty in traversing the area. The temperature is dynamically generated by the Realistic Weather System and affects this system directly.

Each piece of gear adds to your HTF Rate as also does the heavier your inventory is in relation to your strength. Combat doubles your HTF Rate. There are also Constitution modifiers for reducing Fatigue, Wisdom modifiers to reduce Hunger, and Dexterity modifiers to reduce Thirst.

When consuming food or drink item, a PC will be healed a small percentage of their total hit points with each use. Better food or drink will heal a larger percentage than poor food or drink.

Turning OFF the HTF System for your Character(s)
If you as a player do not want the HTF system applied to your PC - you can turn it off! To do this, bring up the Player Menu by pressing the ‘R’ key, or type in !menu. Then go to Character Options and you will see a choice to ‘Turn off the Hunger, Thirst, & Fatigue system’.
Once it is turned off however, it *cannot* be turned back on for that character. PCs who have their HTF monitor off do *not* receive healing benefits from eating or drinking, but then they no longer have to worry about carrying food and water around or suffering penalties from becoming fatigued.

In the Thay PW it is left up to you to decide what you like better for your characters….
