After fighting a shadowfiend an a few other creatures I killed all except the fiend that had lots of DR and tried to leave the bottom floor heavily encumbered from str drain. Upon entering the upper catacombs I was struck dead to -16 from near full health by recieving 98 magical damage from the shadowfiend that followed me up from the lower catacombs and attacked me again. I had 5 str upon transition and then all of a sudden I was dead and now the death screen wont come up.
All I can say is, what the hell? Do you auto die if your str reaches 4? Has the game been altered to allow creatures to chase through various transitions now?

I think level drain to 0 does mean automatic death, not sure how many they can drain at one time since it seems like you didn't have any levels drained yet when you transitioned.

It was only str drain I experienced, no enervation

Draining any ability score to 0 means instant death. Those fiends can drain quite alot with one Hit too. As to the missing death screen - what do you See instead?

Just me being dead, no menu or anything else, a relog fixed that.
