"Prowler" - zDarkShadowz - 07-09-2013

Ah... the first time I awoke... A strange feeling of shock and horror that had emblazoned my mind before my existence was quickly dissipating... Looking down at my h-, no... claws, my fur... luxurious fur... was matted down with some dark, sticky liquid... I squinted slightly, my eyes sharply focusing, and I recognised the smell and the sight instantly... blood. Glancing around with a peculiar, widened view, I noticed I was hiding in the backstreets of a town that seemed oddly familiar, though I had no recollection of how I knew the place.... The usually broken, uneven cobblestones did not bear their (usual?) pale complexion, stained with something much darker. All was dead silent.... except for some nearby sobbing, and distant screaming... and there was red. Pure, unendingly delicious red everywhere. So salty... so sweet. Before I even knew what I was doing, my tongue had already escaped my maw, hunting out stray droplets of this indescribably addictive fluid. My snout whipped around toward the direction of the sounds of sobbing... there was a little monkey without a tail there... cradling the head of a larger, long-haired monkey... would it taste better fresher..? I leapt forward...

Later... and realised I was running on all fours, a small, pink arm lodged in my jaws, sweet nectar dribbling down my teeth to be picked up with the wind and scattered across my chest, reliquifying the mess already apparent on my dark, ebony fur. The sounds of thundering heartbeats followed behind, and I turned around and rose to greet them, twin claws slashing but once, felling the two large, four-legged beasts, their mishapen shiny adornments being trampled in the carnage. One morsel survived... I tore the odd hard object surrounding his filthy head and nuzzled myself firmly into his neck, wrenching out a sizeable chunk and chewing on it thoughtfully as I gazed with yellowed eyes into the distance... it was indeed better fresh...

...Open plains, the smell of running water and wild flowers hung in the air, barely masking the nearby deer as they hopped away into the distance, startled by the powerful beast that had trotted sure-footedly forwards for a drink of something less salty than blood...

...Stop...

The utterance crossed my ears, an unrecognisable, toned croaking sound... I blinked, looking for the source of this nearby creature. Glancing around, the only visible being left nearby was my distorted reflection in the river. Watching it closely, its eyes flickered from a yellow, blood-shot glare into sapphire blue sphere's briefly...

...Stop...

As my reflection mouthed a weird sound of its own accord through drooling, bloodied teeth, my body began to spasm uncontrollably, bones bending and fusing, my warm, soft fur receding and hiding behind a pale uncomprehensible anomaly that had surfaced from below. My elegant muzzle receded and separated into a snubby little thing, barely good for smelling the sickly stench of fear, my lips dropping below it an abhorrently far distance. In a final burst of agonising pain, my tail shrunk and disappeared behind me, leaving only a smooth, empty and forlorn surface. As I lay in a pool of my own sweat and others blood, this feeling of pure, blissful freedom subsiding from my veins, I gazed up and saw nothing but heavy clouds above, blocking my sight of my beautiful circular mistress that had hung suspended impossibly in the air above. Small snowflakes began to fall on the open, wild plains, the powerful beast that had been all I ever was, stolen by a strange, monkey-transforming disease... my body became unresponsive, and began moving of its own accord. As my dulled senses were disappearing further, my existence felt as if it was being suppressed and caged behind mental barriers... I heard one, last, unrecognisable garble...

...This affliction... is called humanity...
