Tavern Rumors - Gatalis - 06-27-2014
The Tavern is calm as night drifts onward, a group of caravan guards talking among themselves, well within earshot of other patrons.
"Aye, did yah hear? They let some feckin' foreigner woman become a Captain down in Thazalhar!"
"Bah! Thazalhar might as well be owned by the pirates an' Mulhorand anyways."
"Oh, an' it gets better! See, they're sayin' she's got some big "anti-corruption" trip, an' is punishin' Legionnaires right n'left if they ain't actin' 'propriate t'visitors..."
"Ah, see, I heard as a trade-off for the additional strictness on duty, the Legion there gets a lot more liberties when it comes to down time. They even get a free pint or two when they've worked more than six hours in a day."
"Bah! Prolly gets the money t'cover the drinks from sleepin' with 'alf of 'em anyways. Prolly how she got up t' Captain, that feckin' foreigner, am I right!?"
"Bahahahaha! Wouldn't surprise me in the least, friend!"
"Actually, I heard she's a former veteran sellsword and master slaver... Supposedly she fought for both Alaor and Bezantur during the Salamander wars despite her Thazalhar allegiance, and even lead a small detachment that defended the city from invading forces according to the books..."
"Eh, yer kiddin' right?"
"I don't think he is, friend. I hear there were rumors that she was a knight of Shar or some such. Came from a village near Zhentil Keep."
"Bah! What's this bitch's name anyways!?"
"Eh... Shea Lendetta or somethin' like that me thinks."
"Wait a minute... Bahahahaha! Tha's rich! The Whiskey Queen is back!? yer tellin' me that the dumbass who led over thirty scouting expeditions int' Kepetur t'earn the Thazalhar legion extra cash from magical items is the new Captain!? How the feck did that get approved? The bitch is suicidal with her fighting tactics I tells yah! She's going t'feck over Thazalhar so bad they'll never allow another foreigner to rise above Sergeant ever again, hahaha!"
"In any case, the Thazalhar legion has seen a small influx of trade, and I hear the Reds approve of all the magical items her and her elite keep bringing back from Kepetur... If things keep up this way, Thazalhar might actually become relevant to politics. Especially with that meeting I hear she's trying to arrange between the Legionnaire captains..."
"It's doubtful. One person, especially a foreigner, can't make that big of an impact from an area as small as the Thazalhar Tharch. The place was designed as a first-response defense against Mulhorand and the surroundin' borders anyways. Everyone knows the Tharch just an excuse for Pyarados to not have to deal with the border."
Word of mouth of the foreigner's policy changes and a supposed Legionnaire meeting that hasn't been announced yet continues to spread... Conversations like these are rare, but not unheard of as word slowly begins to pick up that the Thazalhar Tharch, as small as it is, is changing from within and growing economically. It seems that those under this foreigner's command are treating their job more and more as nationalistic peace keepers rather than as a military force.
On the side, a rumor within the Legion begins to pick up that their Captain is trying to arrange a meeting with Daramos to discuss a tactical agreement to bring before the recovering Thazar Keep. ((E.G. I was curious if I could contact a DM/GM about this.))
