Moving Forward Incentives - Balanor - 09-20-2014 Since the server crash about a month ago, I have been unable to recover the latest character and persistent database data. Therefore, based on the feedback from the community, I’ve made the decision we will move forward with the February 8 data that was used to launch the server in an interim state on September 11, 2014. Before I go any further, I will state up front that over 6 months of data has been lost and it will not all be recovered to everyone’s complete satisfaction right away. The following incentives have been made trying to balance the focus on looking forward by allowing the DMs to focus on events and doing what they’re supposed to (rather than them looking backward and dealing with a mess of recreating PCs), but yet provide something in the way of a “Thayan is very sorry” and “Thank you for returning to the PW after this darkest hour”. Automated Incentives There are several incentives in place at this time which will affect everyone for the next several months. The point of this incentive program is to take as much burden off the DMs as possible by giving each player fairly distributed rewards which they can use to rebuild as they see fit over a period of the next few months. These are in place so you have extra gold, notoriety, or XP to work on the enchantment forges and build that item you want, or get a quick jump closer to where you might have been prior to the crash. These automated incentives will remain in place until December 1, 2014. 1. Notoriety and XP rewards for all PCs are doubled until December 1. 2. Each player can select a ‘Quick Level’ option in the Mind’s Eye area for one new PC. This will set the PC to level 5, give them 25,000 gold, and provide enough notoriety to become a first rank member of a faction as soon as they leave the Mind’s Eye area. 3. If you already have existing PCs in your servervault, created either during this last week or back from February, up to two can receive the following benefits: a. A one-time notoriety bonus totaling 5*CurrentLevel% of their total notoriety. So a level 1 PC will get an award totaling 5% of their total notoriety, and a level 15 will get an award totaling 75% award of their total notoriety. b. A one-time bonus of (1000+(1000*CurrentLevel/15))*CurrentLevel XP. So a level 1 PC will get 1066 XP, a level 10 PC will get 16,666 XP, and a level 15 PC will get 30,000 XP. As a result, every existing PC should get more than enough XP to level-up at least one time, if you choose. c. A one-time bonus of (15000*CurrentLevel/15)*CurrentLevel gold. In addition, the partial zulkir confiscation of large vault balances, or NPCs trying to steal gold from those with a bunch in their inventory, has been disabled until December 1. Note: To receive this benefit, send me a PM with the exact spelling of the PC(s) name you wish to have this applied to. The Pc needs to have been created prior to September 20 for this benefit to be applied to them. 4. Because I am heavily advocating their use to build special items you want for your PCs, the cost of all enchantments at Enchantment Forges have been reduced by half until December 1. In addition, they’ve returned to taking a flat 10% of the gold cost as the XP requirement. So a level 10 PC, for example, will receive 16,666 bonus XP and 100,000 bonus gold, but could eventually spend up to 166,666 gold at a forge before using up that bonus XP award. You can find free public enchantment forges in Rockhammer’s Armor of Nethjet, Sword and Sorcery of Surthay, and there are four temporary forges that have been placed within the grounds of the Temple of Waukeen in Tyraturos. ICly, these forges are ‘only temporarily on display’ by their Red Wizard creators from Sword and Sorcery. 5. Existing PCs at max level, who were played in the last few months, and who were level 16 prior to the crash will have their level increased back to 16 rather than 15. While this is an automatic incentive, it is something I will do manually set each affected PC. If you want to ensure your current-level 15 PC does get the bump to level 16, let me know. 6. Building ownership will be lost due to late taxes when the in-game clock gets jumped ahead to 1362 DR after a couple events I will run in the next week(s) to ICly jump the timeline back to then. Therefore, building deeds will be provided automatically to those who owned buildings back in February, or during this interim state, if you would like one and really can’t afford it. To receive a building deed, I’ll need the exact spelling of the names of your PC(s) who need a building deed, what type of deed they need. Send me any building deed requests by September 26 since shortly after that the clock will move forward, and the new deeds will be auto-distributed again shortly after that. 7. [Information] Merchants also will be lost when the in-game clock jumps to 1362 DR next weekend. Therefore I advise people to wait until then before placing or, if you have already, make sure you clean it out and fire it (to get back your merchant license) before next weekend. Additional Incentives Before talking about getting additional stuff, I’d like everyone to first try and rebuild as best you can on your own with what is provided by the automated incentives. This should also be done with the understanding that not all of what was lost will be exactly recovered, and it is not intended that any combination of incentives will do so. But if you do feel that the automated benefits leave you more short-changed than what you feel is fair compared to other players, here are some additional choices. This may be especially true of players who only joined the PW within the last 6 months who did not play during this last week’s interim period and lost more than one mid-high level character. 1. Additional Gold and XP to create or buy items can be provided on a case-by-case basis. I favor this additional incentive above all others. By investing some of your time with additional gold and XP, if you feel it is needed, virtually all item requests can be handled by each player. I *strongly* suggest you check the enchantment forges for prices of items that you want to create, or check with merchants for the items you want to buy, and tally up those numbers for any additional gold/XP request. If you can provide me a listing of what you are planning to create and how much each costs, I guarantee you stand a MUCH better chance of getting the additional gold/XP you’re requesting! 2. Permission to create a new restricted subrace PC (Drow, Tiefling, Fire Genasi). 3. An item(s) created in the toolset with a detailed description and properties that cannot be created through in-game means. It will be the player's responsibility to create the item and send to me at [email protected] Once/If accepted, I will give it to the PC in-game. 4. Players choice. If there is something not on this list you feel you really want or need, and cannot achieve it with a reasonable amount of in-game time, gold, or XP, I am open to discuss it. This incentive is one I will likely push back on to ensure it is truly needed. And I will say now that there are some things, while technically in my power to grant, that will not be granted. Player’s choice requests such as “I'd like a rebuild” or “I’d like you to use this .bic file, which I promise I really, truly, honestly didn’t modify” are among those I just cannot grant to one person out of fairness to all. How to request Additional Incentives Send me a PM here on the forums with the following information: 1. Login Name on the server 2. The name of the PC you are requesting incentives for. List PC names if you are requesting for more than one. 3. Specific incentives for the PC(s), and the reason why the additional incentive is needed. As mentioned before, I will be most receptive to simple requests like additional gold or XP for you to make your own items at the forges, for example. Send me any additional incentive requests by September 30. It will also likely be around that time when in-game events will result in the clock being jumped forward again to 1362 DR. RE: Moving Forward Incentives - Miscr3ant - 09-20-2014 Wow...very generous, and I thank you very much for offering this up, Thayan. Was the crash unfortunate? Sure. Was it the end of the world? Nope. :) What I lost was pixels and erf's, certainly not my fun factor...that's why I'm still here, and glad I found this place. The incentives will make it so that I am able to get back where I was faster, but as my Tempus Twin has said...it's the journey, not the destination. Now, put this behind you, deep breath...and resume your normally scheduled life. :D :) RE: Moving Forward Incentives - Bela - 09-20-2014 Agreed thank you Thayan, this is over and above what I was expecting. Now it's time for the party to begin once more. :D And you can take a well earned breather Thayan and enjoy the world with us. :D RE: Moving Forward Incentives - Balanor - 09-20-2014 A few points of clarification as well, which I'll add to the main post shortly: 1. If you have XP gains turned off for an existing PC you now want to have the bonus XP applied to, you'll need to request that since I'll have to do it manually (I just did it for one of our players). 2. For level 12+ PCs, remember that there is also a notoriety or time requirement to level-up. So while you will still have received bonus XP, and notoriety above, you may not yet be able to level if the notoriety the PC possesses isn't high enough. this is probably going to be more of an issue for level 13-15 PCs than anyone else. If you want a level-up for a PC as an additional incentive, send me the request. 3. Create the new PC before you delete any existing PCs, or the system will instead thing you want to use half levels from the existing PCs for your new PC and not apply the Quick Level bonus option even if you select it. I will probably change this very soon, but for now please make note of this and don't delete any PCs if you intend to create the new level 5 PC shortly afterward. RE: Moving Forward Incentives - Pluto - 09-20-2014 Well, been playing around with this for hours now and this is really awesome. Thank you, Thayan. :) I think I have my characters pretty squared away already or well on the road to being that way. RE: Moving Forward Incentives - Animayhem - 09-20-2014 Yes things are falling in place. I have been working with Rimeth may work with Cara later RE: Moving Forward Incentives - TheSupremeForce - 09-20-2014 Wow, kudos for putting together an incentive program that goes above and beyond the call. RE: Moving Forward Incentives - MilesBeyond - 09-20-2014 Thayan, you are the best. These are perfect. RE: Moving Forward Incentives - zDarkShadowz - 09-20-2014 Wow, this is... absolutely perfect for Valin, thank you so much. After using up almost all of the bonus gold, I was able to put my character at almost exactly the same state he was in, with +1 regen more! Thanks a lot, once again. RE: Moving Forward Incentives - MoreThanThree - 09-21-2014 Will characters given the quick-level boosts need to speak to the beggar, or can they just go straight to factions to join them? |
