Captain Shea's Dungeon Delving Discoveries - Gatalis - 11-25-2014 So I'm thinking of starting a project (possibly IC, possibly just OOC) to create a new map along the same lines as the maps of Thay, but instead of being an overland map they'd be hand drawn maps of dungeons/points of interest within said dungeons. I was thinking if I did it as an IC venture, I could turn it into a book to "sell" IC and then PM the players the physical maps in a zipped file or something over the forums if it would be a meta issue to post 'em directly OOCly. She could include generic stuff in the IC book like monster types and effective weaponry in order to "use ink" in the "drawing" of the maps. I don't suppose anyone would be interested in that? Thoughts? I'll try to get an example up with one of the more common dungeons (maybe the crypt in Tyraturos) tonight so folks have a generic idea of what I was thinking they'd be like. I've always hated spoiler pages and stuff like this walks that line between neat way to present IC info and plain spreading IC info. As a rule of thumb, do not spread IC info unless you are IC or unless it would be common knowledge to all. While the idea of selling information is keen, this would be hard to sell when anyone can access it. There is nothing like entering a dungeon for the first time and this takes away from that. So I vote no. I second that, and because I can't articulate myself well enough to say what Carcass said, I'll keep it to this. If you are returning to a place in character with people who have never been, in a group and they ask what my be inside, then if its in your character's nature to tell them then do so. You can even charge them a fee if that's in your character's nature. :) RE: Captain Shea's Dungeon Delving Discoveries - Gatalis - 11-26-2014 Example of what I was getting at, incomplete rough draft map of the Tyraturos Upper Crypts (I figure everyone and their dead grandmother has been in them unless they're a completely new player) since I got distracted. (http://www.filedropper.com/scan00242 http://i.imgur.com/aXUS6kw.jpg) Goal was to create something that would feasibly look familiar to a player, but wouldn't necessarily be 100% accurate (off dimensions and the like). I'd argue that if a player wants that sense of discovery, they could simply not purchase the maps, but many folks would like a general sense of what they are getting themselves into before rushing in. I made many a character-crippling mistake when I first joined simply because I had no idea how things on the server/dungeons functioned and things seemed to be set to hardcore compared to other servers I'd played on. Debated quitting multiple times that first month way back when simply because I kept dying at every turn even when I was careful. Eh, will probably still create a general "dungeoneer's guidebook" with things like the side description there, maps or not. |
