Roads Less Traveled - Animayhem - 04-23-2015 First off I have to say, as far as maps and roads, Thay is one of the most detailed. Even if you get lost using a map or atlas you can eventually find your way somewhere. For the most part, I have been having my character's use horses rather than vans. However there is one place, where especially I am too tired I will van to and that is the Keep of Sorrows. Believe it or not you can get there from Bezantur and Amruthar, though Bezantur a bit trickier. Usually I will ride to Amruthar and go from there. So without giving spoilers on exactly how to get from a to b, for others what place is a bit prickly to get to? RE: Roads Less Traveled - MoreThanThree - 04-23-2015 The Long Portage RE: Roads Less Traveled - Hellstrom - 04-23-2015 I really don't find any location difficult to get to via overland travel. I use both the in-game maps and this: http://thaypw.org/showthread.php?tid=1996&page=2 As I travel I keep count of the number of "leagues" I've travelled in a given direction in my head or have my character count it out aloud so I can refer to the chat window to remind me where I am. Like you said Ani, even if you get lost it's easy to get back on track. And I've done the Bez -> KoS trip so many times I'm totally used to bumping up against the "towering cliffs of the First Escarpment" that "block any further travel in that direction" :) RE: Roads Less Traveled - Pluto - 04-23-2015 I'm a fan of using those two man boats that seldom get used to move around to some locations. Hint: Even the rivers of Thay offer a caravan style of travel. But that ship out of the Long Portage is a real dump. I'd rather take my horse. :P The bad news about those little dinghies and rowboats is that you can't get any sleep when you take one. The good news is that I've never once run into an ambush or other random encounter while taking them. So if you're low on spells and Fatigue, you're in Amruthar and you have a house in the Keep of Sorrows, taking the little dinghy home is cheap, and you probably won't get your butt kicked before you can get home and recharge. On a related note, why does that old man with the dinghy only travel from South Alaor to North Alaor, not the other way around? |
