New Thay PW Hak Testing - Balanor - 04-29-2015 Greetings all. I first want to state that, if you wish to be surprised by what is coming your way in the next hak update, read no further. This thread will contain tons of spoilers. The main purpose for this thread though is because I need assistance testing many new additions to the Thay PW hak that I’ve been working on. A lot of this testing could be considered monotonous, but it’s important this occur to avoid misspellings or other minor problems that might later end up requiring a hak update - which would then mean the entire thing would need to be re-downloaded and re-installed by EVERYONE. To avoid that, I’d like to get things as thoroughly tested as possible before this update. To do that, I need the help of people with some knowledge of how to install a module, hak, and tlk file and then load the module with a test character on your own. If, you are capable of handling that setup on your own (it’s really no different than if you download a single player module to play on your own), and *only* if you have the time or desire to help test and report your findings in a timely manner, I’d ask for your assistance. If you believe this is you, please read on - -------------------------------------------------------- Just over 100 new spells will be added with the next update. This is a massive undertaking that involves many custom content (hak and tlk) additions. In order to make sure these spells are setup correctly in the hak and tlk files, I need the following items tested for Wizards/Sorcerers (they use the same spells), Clerics, Druids, Paladins, and Rangers: 1. Verify the description of the spell in your spellbook is accurate – check for any misspellings, grammar errors, etc. Especially verify that the information at the top of the spell is (mostly) in-line with the official source information found at this site. Note: I’ve found it’s easiest to use a Sorcerer, like Kell ap Morgan from your local vault, for the arcane spell testing. There is a level-up option in the test module, so when using that on a sorcerer you can completely change all spells in his spellbook to the brand new spells which do show up on the level-up spell selection screen for Sorcerers. 2. Verify targeting of the spells matches what the description says and the spell can be cast. I.E. – A spell can target a creature/area/object as described and, in most cases, cannot target an object it isn’t supposed to. Note: None of the spells have spell scripts attached to them yet, so all I am looking for is that the spell can be targeted and the caster will perform his casting animations 3. Verify that the spells which can be enhanced with metamagic do show up as available to do so and can be memorized that way. Note: This will mean creating test PCs that have the metamagic feats, and then testing this in the test module. I have the test module’s rest script setup so it will immediately rest someone (you don’t have to wait the normal amount of time to fully rest) which should make this go along a little faster 4. Verify that you can scribe the spells in your spellbook to scrolls (test the Scribe Scoll feat on them) 5. Verify that, for non-hostile spells of third level or lower, you can brew potions with them (test the Brew Potion feat on them) 6. Verify that, for spells of fourth level or lower, you can craft wands with them (test the Craft Wand feat on them) -------------------------------------------------------- Due to time consuming testing that is needed, I would like to split out the testers by spellcaster class. In other words, you let me know a class you would like to test and do all 6 testing options above with that class. There are *far* more arcane spells for Sorcerers/Wizards, so for that class I think we could probably use two people testing and breaking it out by spell level (i.e. – one person tests spells 1-4, the other test spells 5-9). There's also a number of cleric spells, so that class too may need to be split in two if we get enough volunteers to test the others. Paladins and Rangers will be the easiest so if you don’t have much time but would still like to help, consider them. If you are interested *and capable* in helping test the new spells, please reply here with your preference for what class you’d like to test. Once I have a list of people for most/all of the spellcasting classes I’ll send you all a PM with a link from which you can download the test module, hak, and tlk files required for the testing. Finally, as a major spoiler, here is the list of spells coming by class and broken down by level, so as you are deciding if you have time to help test, you'll know what you're getting in to - Wizard/Sorcerer Spells (Spell Level 1-4 Testing to be done by Bertram. I gather the wizard spells also mean sorcerers too? RE: New Thay PW Hak Testing - Balanor - 04-29-2015 Yes, for both wizards and sorcerers. To keep this as under-whelming as possible for you (and this goes for any volunteer), let's have you just focus on one class for now. I'll put you down for Druid spells at this time. But if no one else steps forward who would like the Ranger spells we can certainly add that to your 'to-do' list if you'd still like a shot at it then. RE: New Thay PW Hak Testing - Bela - 04-29-2015 I can do the Ranger spells. RE: New Thay PW Hak Testing - Bishop Edward - 04-29-2015 If we can work out a meeting schedule, I'd love to test the Wizard spells. PM me. RE: New Thay PW Hak Testing - Purulent Carcass - 04-29-2015 Cleric Spells need love, sign me up. RE: New Thay PW Hak Testing - Pluto - 04-29-2015 I can't seem to stop playing paladins of varying sorts, so I'll take the Paladin spells. RE: New Thay PW Hak Testing - Bertram Anders - 04-29-2015 I can mange some of the wizard spells. RE: New Thay PW Hak Testing - Balanor - 04-30-2015 Thank you all for the offer to help. Bishop, while it would be nice to have you on board, the point of this is to take some work away from me and make it more cookie-cutter-like for the testers. Trying to work out an individual schedules with one person(s) to do some of this testing is something I just don't have the time or desire to do. If you do need a timeline though, my plan is to get the test files to the testers by tomorrow evening or Saturday morning. I would like to have the results of their testing back to me no later than May 10. So that gives two full weekends including the first week of May for each person to work on testing these. If anyone else has the time/desire, we could use one more person to help test the level 5-9 Wizard/Sorcerer spells, and another to possibly help split out the Cleric spells with Carcass. If not though, we'll survive. RE: New Thay PW Hak Testing - Wids - 05-01-2015 I'd love to help, but 1) my new job's still eating most of my time, and 2) neither Corella nor Wyren are high enough to cast 8th and 9th Level spells anyway. Sorry. |
