Was just wondering, can rangers only be granted spells by nature deities or not? I know they're outdoorsy, but they're also more versatile than druids as far as motivations, and I vaguely remember a thread debating those 2 points which doesn't show up when I search.

This may be the conversation you are speaking about. The posts on this page, my post at the bottom of the page, and the following posts on the next page explain a change that was made to Rangers:

To summarize though - initially in Thay Rangers, just like Druids, could only select nature-based deities as their god. But based on discussion from multiple people wearing me down who that felt Rangers could be applicable to any god, it was changed several years ago. Rangers can select any patron god so long as their alignment matches the alignment restrictions for clergy of that god - which can be found in the thread KTA posted.
