I am not referring to the vhs dvd combos, but to a new method of transferring your vhs taped directly to the computer to either be played on it or to be later burned onto a disc. I have only seen one product heavily advertised and it is by Roxio.

The basic idea is you plug in your vcr cables into the usb connecter which is then hooked into your computer and the tape data downloaded.

Has anyone used this product or something simular?

Many years ago I did something similar but since back then there was no 'feasable' solution available I had to hack something together to make it work. If I would have to do this today I'd just buy a usb coverter and use open source software to make it happen.
