New Builds and You
#1
It has been a bit since the new build guidelines have been implemented.

Over all I am pleased. I really like some of the newer spells especially for rangers and druids.

The one which both can use longstrider is great and when combined with freedom of movement awesome way to travel by horse.

The spell obsuring mist is great way to escape in tight corners.

Disguise is a fun one.

The new archery spells for the rangers nice as well.

Rangers be careful of what spells you choose if you have the flame twin. It can affect its ability to aid you.

Though I guess that could be said for all spellcasters.

I like most of the new spells, though some more love for non-wizard/sorc arcane spells would be cool. Things like heroism and such, just an idea.

I love the changes to all the prestige classes... with one exception.

first, I don't mind the perform requirement for Shadowdancers, but I think that a revamp of what classes can take what skills should have come hand in hand with that. especially since nwn's class skill system is a bit skewed.

2nd, I think with all the moves to bring classes in line with 3.5ed pnp is great, but a small addition to shadowdancers of dimension door x/day at varying levels would be a good way to add the only ability SD's are missing from pnp, that being shadow jump. Especially since the class's most unique feature is not so unique any more.

Also, coming as a newcomer to the server...

I think the changes to magic item use (spell scrolls etc) need some revision.

for instance, rangers/paladins can't even use their own scrolls. (assuming assassins/harper scouts/blackguards will have the same problem with thier spell lists.)

anyway, my two cents. Otherwise I've no complaints about the server.

Yes it is odd that rangers can not use their own scrolls. I can not understand why they can not use magic items like the common things rod of the ghost.

I am ok with the non- use of magical items as things can be enhanced with spells but yea not being able to use a ranger scroll seems odd.

It's the same thing for Bards, too. I could see making a Bard use UMD to scroll-cast a Cleric spell or a Wizards-and-Sorcerers-only spell (like Ice Storm, which Bards can never cast innately), but Bards are still spellcasters. So making a Bard pass a UMD check to cast a Bard spell -- as listed in the scroll's description (ie. Expeditious Retreat or Ultravision) -- from a scroll just doesn't seem right to me. :-/

Okay, so I overlooked something under the 6th Level spells. But you know what I mean. Swap "Ice Storm" with "Bigby's Caressing Fingers" or whatever if you must. :P

In Thay even if you have UMD skills you still have to have a successful roll. I am also aware that if you wish to take skills that are not class related you pay a penalty by having to put more skill points like 2 skill points in a skill not class related as opposed to one in a class skill.

Rangers are unable to add any skill points to umd at any time. The only ways one can get around this is enchanting items at the forge or taking a level or two of rogue. Do not misunderstand me I have nothing against multi-classing. :)

I am comfortable with Marister not being able to do this but the factors I mentioned may be a deterrent to people playing a pure ranger.
