Map of Eltabbar clarification
#1
Hey hey

Recently got a Map of Eltabbar (As a random loot drop), and I am aware such things are illegal, however the description on it makes me curious if that actually applies to full fledged Red Wizards as well, or if they are exempt from such rules?

This is the description in question;
"Of particular note, maps of Eltabbar are strictly prohibited.
The Red Wizards maintain their assertion that maps of the city are to be kept out of the hands of the general public "for security reasons", and unauthorized possession of this map is punishable by instant death"

If the DMs are fine with it, I'd like to assume Ziarya would bring it to someone in government and ask about it - And hand it over for summary destruction if it indeed is illegal for Red Wizards as well (I logged out right next to the trash barrel in my tower so I can destroy it immediately if that is the case).

In short, I'd like to know on an IC level if the map can be kept or not

Edit: Would not allow me to show the screenshot, so had to type the text manually

I'm pretty sure PC Red Wizards are exempt from that rule.. But in-character you probably shouldn't keep that map on you all the time. There can be people with "sticky fingers" walking about in Thay, and you don't want to be blamed for allowing the wrong person to take the map off your hands. If you want to ask about it in-game we can set up a little encounter, but I think that sort of information is already available through books at certain libraries.

Hello,

The funny thing is, that this map can be bought normally in [removed by Balanor]

With only 3 in appraise this maps costs [removed by Balanor]

It would be a bizarre thing that you can pay so much for your own death and funeral Biggrin

So, no, i dont think that it is intended to punish players for possessing this map .... hopefully ... Rolleyes

The price kinda informs that it is not a normal map, even if you don't read the description in full :P
It is pretty common knowledge that possession of such a thing is illegal

Think of it in terms of military grade weapons in most countries; They -can- be obtained if you are willing to find a seller willing to sell it at insane cost and risk - It is still illegal ;)

Definitely not a normal map. The thief vendor in Tyraturos (whose name eludes me currently) used to sell it as well, but it was removed from her inventory.

I've seen them drop from enemies once or twice, and they've been awarded by DMs in the past. Generally speaking though they're illegal, and I'd say it's pretty common knowledge about what happened when someone gets caught with one.

Yes it was due to an event that was ran, Hrodbert the Free one of my characters made it known after that it was gone!

While it is highly illegal to hold one and can get you in a lot of trouble if you have one in RP it's still a valuable map to have! While throwing them away would be a good idea there are still RP ways of getting rid of them, say handing them to a Legionnaire or what not!!

It can take a long time to learn Eltabbar without one! ;)!
