New to the Server
#1
Okay, so i recently got NWN Platinum, Now i've played NWN2, so the game mechanics are fairly recognizable and easy for me to utilize.... However i played on this server yesterday and as i ran through some of the basics i started to get some questions i couldn't seem to find answers to exactly.

1. For the first Hour or so all i did was spend time running back and forth between temples, Central Citdel, and The Beggar, or the Rusty Anchor, taking messages...., Now i noticed that these NPC's you take the Letters to offer you a potential quest... so i've attempted some of these and encountered that some of the monsters down within said sewers actually do deal a hefty amount of damage such as the ichor oozes. Would you all recommend doing these quests? or should i wait until i am a higher level? If i am to wait what would be the recommended levels? Are the other quests that offer more experiences than the letter running?

2. Slaver's.... WHAT EXACTLY ARE THESE? Yes it is specified that Playable Characters can take on this role, At the introduction for a character you find them being chased by these Slavers..., I understand with the initial protection you receive keeps them away from you. Are Slavers also NPC's?? Is there anyway you can identify slavers or is it in their name? Do events trigger a slaver attack? Recommendations to avoid these events if they are in the game. There's alot of information on this specific element of the server PC wise, nothing Server wise such as if NPC Slaver's exist and so forth.

3. Gold Accumulation.... I've had a little trouble with this not saying up the amounts any monsters drop and so forth... But what would the recommended ways to make gold other than selling slaves be?

4. Best recommendation for an initial character build, advice on character attributes layouts, Heavy in Strength? Heavy in Constitution? Any advice and answers onto this would be appreciated.

5. Getting involved with the Development with this server/storyline, Would there be anyone i can contact to potentially get the module? I use to be an Avid Roleplayer back during MSN Chat days so i have alot of practice in creative descriptive writing that can help. I also have some skills in Scripting, I have yet to find something that really caught my attention to dedicate alot of time to develope. I do know a little about Website management, and i also have education and training in Network System Servers Administration and Security as well as a Network + Certification, Security + Certfication from the CompTIA IT Association.

This is just a basic layout of some questions i had that jumped out to me in the few hours i was playing on the server.

If i can help with the module development or storyline development in anyway i'd love to assist where i can let me know!

I'm just another player, but will try to help out with these. I don't have any inside knowledge about the scripts, so some of the info is educated guesses, but I've been playing here for over a year now.

1. I'd recommend sticking with quests given by the beggar until he's done with you. It can be a little boring, but I think the quests he gives are a little safer for low level chars and count for more toward being done with him. Basically, once your character's notoriety is high enough, he'll be done with you and your character can move on and join one of the in-game factions. AFAIK, that's when slavers stop coming after you too... though you'll start getting assassins coming after you then :)

While you're running around delivering those boring messages, you're learning the layout of Bezantur and getting XP for visiting new areas, plus it's a great chance to talk to townsfolk. Do that as much as you can and get information on the background of Thay and info about in-game stuff (like the location of a high-level dungeon). Not only will you learn some good info, but you'll get more XP for doing it. Nice.

2. Slavers are both NPCs and PCs. PC slavers use subdue mode to knock creatures out and enslave them with shackles and sell them to NPC slavers for gold and notoriety. NPC slavers start coming after you at 2nd level and continue coming after you until your notoriety is high enough that they won't bother you. And like I said, that's when NPC assassins will start coming after you. NEVER go AFK without marking your character as AFK so the scripts know not to attack you.

3. Probably the best way to make money aside from slaving is to get a group together and head with them into the sewers or crypts. There's safety in numbers (others can help you if you're bleeding out), and as I recall, the chances of finding items are higher with more people in the group. Plus you can get a mixture of skills for dealing with monsters, traps, and locks. And you can make in-char friends who can be a big help in the long term.

4. If you're new to NWN (I never played NWN2, so don't know how similar they are), then your best choice is likely to be a fighter-type (fighter, ranger, monk... I'd stay away from Paladin in Thay unless you're up for a real challenge :) ). Then go with a pretty high strength and con. Strength = better chance to hit, more damage dealt, and more items you can carry away and sell. Con = more hit points, better fortitude saves, and a higher chance to stop bleeding when (not if) you go unconscious.

5. Can't help out here. KTA and Thayan are in charge of this.

Some other advice - try to avoid dying. Yes, your mysterious allies will rescue you, but only for a while. After that you'll go to the fugue and lose XP, notoriety, and all your gold and items will be left in a pack where you died. And each time you die after that the XP and notoriety hit will go up until it's no longer worthwhile to play the character.

And don't neglect notoriety and just focus on levelling. Notoriety is very important on this server and opens up some very cool options for your character. I love the notoriety system!

Thanks Hellstrom for your good council! As for slavers and assassins, they attack no matter where you are...

Welcome to the server. Hellstrom and KTA did an excellent job of answering your questions, but I just wanted to add that you might want to look at the link in my signature for a post with additional helpful information too.

If you're interested in module work send me an e-mail at [email protected] or through these boards and we can talk about the server's development needs and where/if you might be a fit.
