Long-Term Vision of the Thay PW
#1
I’ve actually had a couple questions on this from players, and I’d just like to officially state the long-term vision for the in-game events of the Thay PW.

I am a HUGE fan of source material and not re-inventing the wheel. As such, the Thay PW will pretty closely follow events found in official 2nd and 3rd edition source material. This PW began Hammer (January) 1, 1357 DR. As everyone is experiencing in-game at the time of this post, the infamous Salamander Wars have begun and are now ravaging the Priador – including Bezantur. The following year of 1358 is the Time of Troubles, when gods walk Faerun and mere mortals can destroy them and even ascend to the rank of godhood. Following that, in 1359, the Tuigan Horde turns their attentions westward and invades Faerun - starting with Thay. Beyond that there are other official events that will be handled in-game, like the events of the Red Magic novel (approximately 1362 DR), and adventures in the Spellbound box set (approximately 1368 DR).

I am relatively old school in that 2nd edition D&D is what I ‘grew up on’. I adapted to 3rd edition (obviously needed for NWN!) without too many complaints, and accept many 3.5 rules as well. However, this PW will not be following or leading up to any events described in 4th edition material or sourcebooks - such as Thay turning into a wasteland (I think that’s the official state of it in 4th edition, aye?) and several of the gods dieing (like Mystra). So once we get to around 1370-72 DR, the PW lore and direction will be whatever we make it, not that what you do now can't have a significant affect on official source lore as well. Keep in mind though that 1370-72 DR will be real-life years away, since one in-game year is around 3 months real time.

If anyone has any questions, comments, or concerns on the long-term vision of the PW, please post here or send me a PM.
