Mixed levels in a group?

Hello,

I was wondering what it would take to promote more mixed levels in a group of adventurers and not have the highest level character spawn an encounter that could wipe out the entire party.

Could the encounter system be tweaked to reflect this?

As a RP'r i'd rather be able to travel with any level group (and take a lower amount of XP myself to do it if i am the highest level character) and not have to worry about getting the party killed with a super tough spawn.

Let me try to explain myself a little better...lol,

say we have 5 party members and 4 of the are in the 4-6th lvl range, and one of them is 9th.

could the spawns (CR) of the encounters be based on the 4 lower level party members 80% of the time and then on the other 20% of the time the spawns (CR) are based on the normaly higher average due to the 9th lvl character?

This way we could have a mixed group of player characters run and RP together and not constantly face higher level spawns just because of one them is a 9th lvl character...

I should note that the XP system shouldn't be teaked for this, just the generated spawn (CR) for the mixed group party.

Is this doable?
