Help Requested: Creating more Thay PW Rumors
#1
This is primarily a request for longer-term players.

I've long had a design task, which continues to slip, to create more Thay PW-specific rumors for commoners to provide. Right now, commoners in both Thay and in the Underdark typically provide rumors based on official source lore. However, I would like to add additional rumors that are *specific* to this PW's implementation of Thay and Undrek'Thoz - for things such as who/where a special questgiver is located, or what is a secret about XYZ area that few might know about, or if you possess X item and you search Z location, you may find something of interest, and so on.

While I certainly know most of them and given time and a lottery win could eventually write more; I also feel it may be better and more realistic for players to provide rumors that NPCs may speak. In this way, the information commoners gossip about may, like *real* rumors (especially in our current day and age of misinformation), not necessarily be 100% accurate. But it may give other characters an IC idea of something unique that they could find out and investigate on their own in-game without resorting to metagaming.

So if you decide you'd like to try creating a few rumors for the PW, here are some guidelines -

1. PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR RUMORS HERE! Either PM them to me or e-mail them to [email protected]  Biggrin

2. Your rumors don't need to be 100% accurate (don't worry if you don't know all the details about something you're creating a rumor for). And neither should they be 100% specific. Something like this, which provides too much detailed information (whether accurate or not), will not make the cut -
"Billy Bob Tam in Tyraturos - North is a special questgiver for level 7+ characters who asks for 236 Beholder Knuckles and will give you a Flaming Holy Avenger +10 kukri as a reward."

3. Phrase your rumors in an IC way that a commoner would provide it so I can just copy and paste them into our rumor mill system. Something like this, as opposed to the example in #2, stands a much better chance to make it into the rumor mill system -
There's a guy sometimes found in northern Tyraturos -Bob, I think- who sends seasoned adventurers out for the strangest monster trophies. He's usually only around in the evening, so he's sometimes tough to track down. But I've heard the powerful kukri he provides as reward for those trophies is well worth the time spent trying to find him....and worth the risk in getting those trophies!

4. Try to keep rumors between 3-5 sentences long and between 250-500 characters (nothing too long, but nothing too short, either).

5. Most rumors will be applicable to either Thayan commoners or else to Underdark commoners, but if there may be any confusion as to the region the rumor belongs in, please specify that.

Bumping this for visibility. I'm still looking for many, many, many more PW-specific rumors.

Balanor Wrote:To clarify; these rumors could/should be more than any about special quest givers. If there is info about a unique or adventure location, those would be very useful (i.e. - anything they know about Dillomat's Tower and its destinations, maybe a warning about Kepetur being a wild magic zone, or a tip that the Adventurer's Portal has been known to send people so some sort of Uncharted Land, etc)

Or tips on defeating certain tough/commonly encountered/unique monsters (Aballin, Rust Monsters, Trolls, etc).
Tips about unique items and what they do (Rings Gates, Aspect Mirrors , etc) Or, for further inspiration, they can look through the entire list of load screen tips and take some that can be put into in-character information and add them as rumors https://1drv.ms/u/s!Al5h1jvBXpc-gaJ2bhDk...40E3%2F%29

Any other item/place/person/faction/systems of the PW/etc that they feel they can turn into IC information would be great to see.
I will be reviewing any submissions and acting as editor (or censor) so they certainly don't have to get them "perfect." But since not necessarily all rumors need to be 100% accurate (like they may, or may not be, right now) they are free to use a bit of their own interpretation of how and what a NPC might share about [whatever they choose to write about].
