Noob here.
Quick question. I don't see the church of Azuth anywhere in town, and I'm of a mind to start one. Of the things that I want, I can't find information on how to set services in a player owned structure. Example: A priest that cast spells on PCs for a fee. Is that the same as a merchant or is it something else entirely ?

Right now setting up services can not be done by players, I suggest you start by buying a house and begin to make your church known... everything else will come in time.

KTA answered your question, but I do want to point out his comment that everything else will come in time. If you work on the IC aspect of making a temple to a 'banned' religion in Thay (yes - the Red Wizards don't like anyone worhsipping Mystra or Azuth) and getting NPC and (especially) a few PC converts or sympathizers, we can help out with things like getting a NPC healer or something special.
Regardless though, being able to hire a NPC healer is something that can/will be considered as a future enhancement to the housing/building system.

Thanks. More questions, though. I don't know what benefits come from belonging to a church faction, but since there isn't one for my deity ... what are my options in regards to path of power ? The only thing I can think would serve would be merchant path so that I can own a structure. Is that correct, or did I miss something ?
Also, where can I find fluff info on Thay ? For instance, I've browsed a bit through the forums (not all of them) but I don't see anywhere that mentions banned religions. Is that Thay-PW specific, or should I be reading Faerun fluff ?

You do not need to be in any faction to own property... And reading Faerun and even more so Thay related stuff makes things livelier and colorful.

The banned religions is Faerun fluff (i.e. - official source material). The PW was created with the intent to try and stay as true to the official source information as possible. It was also created primarily from AD&D sources since we started the PW in the year 1357 DR, however there is a little bit from the 3rd edition sourcebook as well. If you're looking for some light reading ;), I'd advise checking out these as you can actually find some of the information in these word-for-word in the PW.
AD&D - Dreams of the Red Wizards
AD&D - Spellbound (this was really the primary source the PW was created from - especially Bezantur)
AD&D - Powers and Pantheons (for the Flaming Brazier temple in Bezantur)
AD&D - Sea of Fallen Stars
3rd Edition - Unapproachable East (most important 3rd edition source as far as this PW goes)
3rd Edition - Lords Of Darkness
3rd Edition - Book of Vile Darkness
Anyway though, to answer your specific question on banned religions, here's what is from the Spellbound boxed set in regard to temples in Bezantur:
The only deities whose worship is banned are Azuth (patron of wizards) and Mystra, goddess of magic and patron of the hated Harpers. The Red Wizards jealously guard the secrets of magic and hate any being, mortal or immortal, who seeks to spread knowledge of sorcery to others. Despite this, Mystra's worshipers maintain a few small, secret enclaves.
While magic (and it's secrets) in the PW is maybe a little more attainable than what it would be if we follow the source material, it hopefully makes things a little more fun/playable.
