Server Down

Did I miss the post explaining where the server went? Just curious what the prognosis is. :)

Yeah, this was a nasty one, but it's back up now.

The server went down about 6:00 PM Central time yesterday - crashing the entire OS which then couldn't restart itself. I didn't notice for several hours after this occurred, and then it took even longer to finally get it to reboot, let it apply all the damn updates, and then get the NWN server started again around midnight Central time. Unfortunately, just as I thought everything was fine and went to bed, the NWN Server caused the same hard crash of the OS again and this morning it was BSoD's galore.

After a couple frustrating hours (when I should have been frustrated at work instead of at home ;) ), I was able to determine with some degree of certainty, that the cause of these crashes was due to corrupted database files, which required a restore to the last database backup I had before the server would load and the OS wouldn't crash. For the sake of time to get the server back up, and my sanity, I restored all database files and didn't try to figure out which one(s) were causing the problem. The good news is that the crash came at about the 'best' possible time - only about 15 hours after the weekly database backup was taken. SO, that means there could be some potential persistent data loss, but it should be pretty limited. In particular, the in-game clock as been reset to whatever it was early Monday morning, and any items in merchants or storage have been reset to what they were at that time as well.

*IF* you stored any unbelievably valuable item from ~3:00 AM Central on Monday morning to ~6:00 PM Central on Monday night, talk to one of the DMs about getting a copy of it. Otherwise, I'm hopeful we're back up and running at 100% again.

I left game early on sunday and was not in game at all on monday. My merchant lost six items I had put in there and items were returned to him that I had taken out.
I sent a pm to Plinith. So since I did not add anything on monday, the stuff should have been there. So the data base must of gotten corrupted on sunday after I got out.

So if the DMs will be going through this work to get you those six items back, you'll be doing the work of clearing out the stuff that was returned to him and dump it in a trash barrel, right?

No as the two armors that are in there now were in my storage at home. The scrolls I sold to Avrora so I can trash them. I can also trash the poisons I sold Avrora except for one as I had that in storage. I check my home storage units and there are no duplicates of the armors which were removed in them

Unfortunately I can not remember the other scroll lost only the one.

I trashed the scrolls and vials I sold to Avrora. I put the two armors and vial back in storage in Rimeths home.

Server went down at 4:48 PM CST. Just thought it should be known.
