Due to RP requirements of one of my characters I would like to ask to what extent the Guild of Foreign Trade and its contracts are considered to be enmeshed with Baatezu Law. I.e. do they fall under the Thayan Law or do they fall under Baatezu Law? Or does this vary by contract?
I am asking this because:
(1) formally speaking, all and any Baatezu Contracts are governed by Baatezu Law, and as such are ultimately adjudicated by and enforced by the rulers of the Nine Hells
(2) it might be (intentionally) hard to perceive that a contract does in fact come under Baatezu Law. In other RP settings I have encountered situations where a contract was presented, containing deep in its text an innocent-looking reference like 'such as defined in the pact primeval'. Which (in that setting) irrevocably put the entire contract under Baatezu Law.
This would have serious implications for any characters who worship a Chaotic deity, especially characters of a Chaotic Evil alignment who consort with Tanar'ri, as any legal disputes would sooner or later expose all parties involved to the jurisdiction of the Hellish Courts.
If on the other hand the contracts are purely based on Thayan Law, the situation is completely different. Any disputes would come under the jurisdiction of the Thayan courts (who may or may not be able to get their judgments enforced, depending on the power and domicile of the offending party), and characters worshipping a Chaotic deity can rest assured that the most that any dispute might land them in, is a dispute under Thayan Law.
So how are we to regard the Guild of Foreign Trade? Ultimately under Thayan jurisdiction or ultimately under Baatezu jurisdiction?
