Favorite Realms Figure
#1
For the sake of conversation, and to maybe give some ideas to me and our DMs: What Forgotten Realms or D&D figure(s) -individual, relic, organization, etc- would you most like to encounter in Thay...and why?

DRIZZT! *fanboy squeel*

Yeah, that was a total joke. I admit I love the books, but I don't read them for the silly Good Drow. Though the current Drizzt series with the hawt elven assassin girl, would be hubba hubba.

Current timeline, and using Kaisers mindset. To actually meet Szass Tam, is his dream.

I know this is way too far in time. But if we were talking 4E, or at least the time of the Haunted Lands Trilogy, Aoth and the griffen riders would be cool. I suppose Malark "could" have been around at this time, and the whole cast would rock, but......

*spolier alert!!!!!!!!!!*

they all kinda died.

Never ever use the phrase 4E again. Ever!

But seriously, I'd like to see more Harper interference! We have a good base for them already and I always imagined they constantly try to be thorn in the Red's side - a minor thorn but still.

It's a bit of a pet peeve of mine that people find Drizzt silly for being a good-aligned Drow. Before his books the race was rather obscure, and no one really explored their society. Salvatore, who got the idea for Drizzt, pretty much created Drow society as we know it. That's why I always thought it was rather strange that certain people think that Drizzt does not fit into "the original vision" of the Drow society, he was part of the original vision.

That said, one of my favorite realm figures have to be The Symbul.

Admitedly I do not have the encyclopedic knowledge of the realms that some of you guys have...but I always thought that Vecna and Kas were a very interesting story...The arch lich who would become a god and his vampire lieutenant who would betray him. Their legendary artifacts (sword, hand and eye) surviving them to carry on their eternal feud...

Of any country in the realms..Thay, with it's mage centric government of evil, self serving mages would be the most likely to not only permit but actively seek out the relics of the arch lich and the power they command.

Also...since the sword follows the eye and hand..a country FULL of undead and evil warriors would offer the sword a vast amount of potential wielders of its might.

I think it's also interesting because it is totally an evil vs evil fight...ALL the artifacts in question are evil but still completely oppose eachother.

This leaves the door completely open for MANY factions to align for or against either side of the conflict.

Another bonus is that the sword and the eye / hand allow PC's to take a center stage as sort of avatars of legendary figures....without having to actually involve the figures themselves in the flesh...removing any constrictions that the cannon might impose.

Other than those...I've always been a big fan of Gaurgauth. His church is one of the coolest in Thay and I know they play behind the scenes alot but involving the tenth lord of the nine with all the double dealing, corruption and powerbroking would be cool. He always reminded me of the devil at the crossroads penning deals in blood...

As far a Drizzt is concerned...He was OK I guess..I just hated all his supporting cast. Much like the whiny bard in the deadlands series.

I thought Vecna was a Greyhawk deity? I could be wrong, though.

I never thought I'd live to see the day Edin was stumped on a diety... Well I cannot say whether he was faerun or greyhawk...he appears in the...ahem "newest" edition. as well as the previous 3.5 stuff. His artifacts have been listed in every DMG since the first ad&d hardbacks at least so perhaps the answer is he is in ALL the worlds?

The 3.5 stuff is set in Greyhawk, Greyhawk was the default setting for 3.0 and 3.5. A rather, different, version of the Forgotten Realms is the default setting for 4.0.

I read up a bit on Vecna, and as was my original belief, he seems to be purely a Greyhawk deity.

I don't really play often enough any more to get a full voice in this, but Maurin would love to meet Thrul sometime. Not for any uh... malicious purposes of course. Maybe.

Other Zulkirs and such would be nice too. The higher ups and stuff (tharchions, etc.) All seem like they're never around, the authorities (from what I recall from when I was more active) seemed a little greyed out at times(though when they were about it was awesome :) ).

I like this evil vs evil idea. Gives good PCs enemies of the enemy who might not actually be friends. Vecna being greyhawk doesn't really mean much. I'm sure there's loads of evil wizards and their friends who would do similar things, plus players won't know the whole story (because it won't be exactly the same).
