Assassination Quests

I know that when you do these your alignment shifts more to evil.
If you cast protection from evil will that protect you?

Also if you take someone with you (you are in party)to do the hit because you are not that experienced in killing stealthy do you still get credit for the quest?

Thanx

I... have never done one of thse, but I don't see how casting Protection from Evil would help? You've murdered someone for gold and reputation. That's basically an evil act, isn't it?

Yes but if you cast protection from evil and you have a summoned like a hellhound, if it does soemthing evil it will protect you from alignment shift.

No.

It protects you from creatures of the evil alignment, it does not magically make your own action non-evil.

You cast protection from evil when you summon fiends because that makes sure the fiends won't rip you apart when they appear, it does not make it less evil.

I want to underscore this, because it is impotant.

Alignment shifts are not a magical thing, it has NOTHING to do with external magical effects, that would be absurd. Its not a sort of taint that slowly turns you evil. Having an evil alignment does not make you evil, being evil gives you an evil alignment.

Protection from evil shouldn't keep you from alignment shifts, it protects the caster from external evil assaults, not from evil tendencies they my have. Quoting from the PH verbatim: 'This spell wards a creature from attacks by evil creatures, from mental control,
andfrom summoned creatures.' That should sum it up unless something was added into Thay, which I highly doubt. Hope that helps. :)
Well, Edin I was typing mine when you posted. Just a little late I suppose. :P

Ok thanks for clarification everyone. :P
The reason I asked is my character is currently Chaotic 7/ Neutral 41.
My character follows:

Oghma
Alignment: Neutral
Portfolio: Knowledge, Invention, Inspiration, Bards
Allowed Domains: Knowledge, Travel, Trickery
Cleric Alignments: Any

She is not a cleric and in reference to alignments, would Oghma accept evil, even neutral evil? Avrora is not a killer by nature but is at a crossroads and really would not like to have to abandon Oghma.

Oghma accepts everyone.

Their personal ethics do not matter, the only way to abandon Oghma is to not care about knowledge.
