Quests

Ive noticed escpecialy recently quests Ive been given have been nigh on impossible, let me explain.... Ive been doing the research quests a lot, but they seem to have halted all of a sudden, now I dont even seem to get any delivery quests , just these examples below.

Quote:Retrive 3x rings of crimson from the Mines on the escarpment on the high road [I was advised to abdone this as a previous trip there took a party of 9th levels to finish the quest]
Quote:Retrive 2 x shields of the dawn from the Mulhorandi tomb in the city crypts [one chest in the area spawns about 50% of the time, after 21 attempts I gave up]

My current quest is to retrive a shocking shield from Eltabbar sewers....not bad you might think, until I tell you I am a 5th level wizard.

With the last two quests declined , I am loathed to do it again, but searching for items has gained me almost a full level without any notoriety from completeing the quests.

This is not a gripe or a moan,( I think the quest system is pretty fantastic) just asking for advice on how I might proceed ...It it worth ditching 2 quests to complete 4 that are easier ? or will I be loosing far too much notoriety by this.

I know the first suggestion will be "group with others" :P but I work an early shift in the GMT time zone, & there are very few players of my level range on the server , let alone online during those times.

Thanks for any advice or tips

Buy the items you need (Players,Merchants)
Group with people, they don't have to be your lvl as the dungeons and xp rewards set to the average lvl in the party, see Here for details.

Also declining quests is a bad idea, as it tears away quite a bit of notoriety.

You do receive notoriety for all quests you complete and will lose notoriety for any quest you drop. However, it will not tell you how much notoriety you have gained... or lost. Only the "Gods" know that. Well, the gods and your faction recruiter/high priest or Red Wizard Master if you are an apprentice. You'll know when you have enough notoriety when you get your faction cloak, get called to trials, get promoted within your faction, etc. You'll never know exactly what your notoriety is however.

I know the staff prefered way to do this is using the In Game messge boards.

But you might want to consider using it, or maybe for really difficult quests do a wanted poster type post.

I may have a character that has such a shield, but i'm not the type to just log in and find you for knowing of it ooc.

Though the best way to do it, is use the in character method. Kaiser would have turned clinically inasne if it wasnt for ensuring everyone in Thay knew about his damned Master and his "Tan Spiked Helms". I was starting to have mini nervous breakdowns every time he got that quest (3 if not 4 times from his master!) but soon everyone would start to keep any they found for him.

Thanks for the replies all , again I'm not moaning, the way quests are produced , magic items & terrain all created randomly still impresses me.

Also, the more people in the group the more likely it is to find a quest item in a container. Another reason it's good to travel with others (though as you mentioned it isn't always possible).

As suggested above, asking around in character is a good idea too (assuming your PC is the type who would do that).

Yes. My character Avrora posted in game on the bulletinboard seeking aid for a quest in the abandoned mines. It took awhile but a group of us went :P

I got my item and people made decent loot :P

Also as mentioned you can buy the some items too. Read the bulletinboards too :P

I'm not sure if this is very clear, or if everyone knows it, but when a questgiver tells you to retrieve an item from a certain location you do not necessairly need to go to that location. You will always have an increased chance to find the item in any container in any adventure area - you just have a better chance (almost double if I recall correctly) of finding it in a container in the target area. Of course that's not a guarantee you'll find it anywhere -as it sounds like you've experienced- which I know can be somewhat frustrating and is another item on the ever-growing priority list of things to change or tweak.

And to be specific, your chance to find a quest item currently is raised by 5% per additional person in your party.

Yes Avrora is a bit frustrated so much so that she posted what she needed. Though she hasn't gotten it yet but she has some rp options which is how I play the quests. I have refused some as it went against her character ideals. Maybe looking at a quest from an rp perspective can help you.

However, I have another question. If more than one person needs to go to the same area but are looking for different things, if they went together would both be able to get their quest items?

Yes, both can find the quest item - as long as you take turns opening containers.
