The report of the config utility failing is normal because the many years old tool can't make anything of your (assumed) quite new CPU identidier. Also to even be able to use nwn on a rather new system you have to install all expansions and the latest patch - this is even more critical when using windows vista and above. Also if you do use those OS's you have to disable the (quite useless anyway) Aero GUI. And last: the ntdll.dll error points once more to a corrupted OS... If all else fails and you have a powerful graphics card - set up a VitualBox VM and run nwn through that. I have do this and it worked, though the performance was not great.
