Yes, I'm generally available on weekdays. What time zone is the server? I'm in central time zone, Louisiana. As to some members not being available, this doesn't matter too much to me. For me, it's all about the story, so if someone misses one night a week, I can pretend that character is there, just not being overly active (having a down day, maybe?). The down side to missing a night is you just don't get to respond to the events you missed. There are other ways to handle missing players, like some side quests or events, etc. Point being, not a big deal to me but handle it how you wish.
I'm including some ideas here in case they help shape your thinking about the campaign (a character with a goal):
The Thayan character I've always wanted to play is a red wizard, but a revolutionary. He was born in Thay, has pride in Thay, loves his homeland (its natural beauty at least) but hates Thay's politics. Thus, his goal is to lead an underground resistance movement. He isn't naive enough to believe he can change Thay's way of doing things overnight, but he hopes that by developing a stronghold of morality, he will rally people to his cause and give others the courage to defy Thay's rule through fear.
My character's goal would be to find and attract to his cause all like minded individuals. That would be a pretty natural way for the group to come together. Basically, I see my character being a prodigy at the Thayan school who becomes bored with their politics and leaves to seek his fortune and bring his vision of a free Thay to life.
And in case it helps at all, my character would not be "good," probably True Neutral, maybe Lawful Neutral. His quest is one of freedom and balance, not righteousness.
