Hello,

I have an idead that would nip all this hand wringing over spell durations, costs, etc...in the bud.

Make ALL of the protective spells that a spell caster uses (or would casts on others) castable only on himself!

That way no spell caster shall never cast stone skin, flame blade, bulls strength, improved invisibilty, etc...on anyone else...problem solved.
