The Mulhorand Invasion of the Alaor

High Priestess Alyssa of the Temple of Umberlee in Bezantur knew what a golden opportunity this would be. This was a chance to show Thay just how powerful Umberlee could be, and how worship of her was just as necessary as worship of the gods-damned Kossuth.

Her temple had always been powerful and well respected. And now with all her priests and priestesses calling for a miracle from Umberlee to save Thay from a disastrous invasion by an enormous Mulhorand fleet that was already nearing the Alaor Isles, she was certain it would overtake the Flaming Brazier as the most powerful in the city. She was sure her priests proselytizing on the streets of the city, and her recent fiery sermon about the looming miracle to stop the Mulhorand fleet would bring a great many new followers to Umberlee’s flock.

------------------------------------------------

Typhonic Oracle Ernatto Pridelin of the House of Holy Tides gazed out from the eastern shoreline of the southern Alaor Isle. Istishia the Water Lord, the god diametrically opposed to Kossuth, had long only been tolerated in this furthest reach of Thay. And then only because it was feared should the House of Holy tides be forcibly removed, the islands would be swamped and perhaps sink beneath the waves again should he become displeased.

Ernatto wanted to show all that not only was Istishia to be feared, but he also protected - unlike Kossuth who only sought aggression and destruction. He had agreed to the alliance with the Umberlee faith for that main reason - and the fact that the Mulhorand pantheon would likely seek the destruction of his temple, regardless of the cost.

------------------------------------------------

Tharchioness Thessaloni Canos of the Alaor Isles had conferred with the legion commanders on the island, including Mur Vhol, her trusted Red Wizard advisor. After preparing her defenses of the base, she vowed to herself that the Mulhorand fleet would pay dearly for every inch of the Alaor it took.

Strangely though, ravens they had sent to the mainland had not produced any response from the zulkirs. So Mur Vhol, and evoker himself, had taken the risky proposition of himself leaving within the hour to go speak with the zulkir of Evocation and persuade him to commit the entire school’s resources to the defense of the island.

------------------------------------------------

Tharchion Aznar Thrul of Bezantur and the rest of the Priador did not exactly see the threat the way the other short-sighted fools did. Already in bed with the Flaming Brazier priesthood and deeply committed to preserving the Firelord’s worship after riding his power to the Tharchion’s throne, he secretly worked with the Thieves guild of Bezantur to ensure that the Umberleean priests’ voice went unheard or were silenced altogether. Ravens from the isles were shot down by his legion or his apprentices as they flew over the city. And he had arranged for Mur Vhol to actually speak with a Leiran priest disguised as the zulkir of evocation, who had taken a bribe from tharchion Thrul himself.

As a result of his efforts, few beyond those who had visited with Umberleean priests in the temple itself or the few who had traveled to the Aloar knew of any impending ‘miracle’, or even that a Mulhorand fleet threatened the Alaor Isles. All Thrul had to do was wait less than a tenday and then, once again behind Kossuth’s fury, he would lead a glorious charge to burn the Mulhorand fleet once it had crushed the Alaor legion and Thayan Navy.

“Aznar Thrul, tharchion of the Priador and the Alaor Isles,” he murmured. It had a nice ring to it.
