To further seperate themselves from their old rulers, they took up the worship of the Faerun pantheon as opposed to the Mulhorandi pantheon. That is why you don't see many temples to their gods about Thay.
While the ruling class in Thay is Mulan, they do not make up the largest percent of the population. The Rashemi outnumber them, some as slaves and some as freemen working as merchants and what not. In Mulhorand the Mulan race makes up a sizable portion of the populace.
Ahh! Even better. In my reading that last was something I did not see or readily find. Based on my (flawed) understanding of the Kingdom of Thay, I was amazed to see all these hairy sasquatchii running around the mod. :P
Final question; in my bio I made him Mulan and the family landed, as I thought his Mulan decent would fit the kingdom better. I'm assuming a portrayal of a feeling of superiority over those who are not Mulan in Thay, but is the level of that lessened in those that are not Red Wizards?
