Remembering the pre-reset days when the lvl limit first went down to 15, I guess this change isn't a shock for me. I'm glad to hear that there is a notoriety based system at least close to in place to re-allow advancement past in the near future.
I have to say, I'm really happy to hear that notoriety will be even more of a factor from 15 on... and I'm curious to see how it affects player dynamics.
That said, I'm curious to hear if there has been any attention paid specifically on the RP aspects of faction contentions and the possibilities of enhanced notoriety to be gained from those... squabbles? If there's a feud between two factions and a PC manages some faction-related success... is there a potential for a notoriety boon? If a thieves' guild member manages to liberate an offering from under the noses of (PC) Legionaires... is there a bonus to be had? If a (PC) Red Wizard manages some subterfuge to undermine (or eliminate) a rival... is there a bonus to be had? If a legionaire manages to uncover a fellow who's corrupt and peddling favors or thug services to a faction (or merchant, or whatever)... is there a bonus to be had (am I the only one who's tried to play a corrupt legionaire...)?
Or are we all, as players, just hoping a dm takes notice and gives a bonus?... Or hoping that another PC takes notice of each of our individual gifts for, and prowess within the realms of, RPing... and rewards us each for such?
I may be shooting myself in the a--{foot}... but if there's truly thought of keeping the higher levels "rare", it seems to me that, rather than just require players to be on and RPing sufficiently to earn enough !xp to gain that next level (a task potentially as "easier" to do with a sufficiently sizable "crew" as it is/was to do by going out and killing stuff for xp previously)... It might be worth considering requiring some sort of faction-related success (as exampled above) as part of the notoriety to gain that higher level? (Maybe dm witnessed... maybe affirmed by a couple of PC witnesses?... Maybe include a !wow-xp award that can be granted, and if two or three grant it to the one PC within some sort of time frame, some sort of flag is set for the PC allowing the next advance?)
Or maybe that's all just too unwieldy (and likely to result in undue antipathy toward my characters for even suggesting an extra hoop)... it's just a thought. Or maybe something along those lines can be considered to allow for a bigger notoriety bump than one obtains for the average incorporation of enough individuality into a PC to make RPing in their vicinity an enjoyable way to pass the time...
