Month 10, day 26:
Just after the sun was highest in the sky, the temple was attacked by some unknown force, the temple was left ruined. Many of it's higher ranking members in the public area, were left dead or severely wounded (I'll not speak for the temple members, but I assume they'd raise as many as they could). The damage to the temple was rather spectacular with the section of temple around the badly injured and unconscious high priest crushed in upon itself(implosion), the priest seems to have escaped this fate somehow, but large cuts betray some other means of injury, a large sword not of the prime material plane. The high priest also appears to have been burned by some sort of divine energy attack(destruction). Around the temple lay burn marks from the steps of fire elementals, as well as larger footsteps from some other extraplanar creature(balor). Around the main temple area the remains of a meteor shower is present(meteor swarm), with large burn marks and other signs of this damage. Anything flammable is burnt (fireball and flame strike).
Any witnesses that survived (or were raised from) within the temple will have seen several fire elementals summoned before a balor was summoned and begun casting as well as genereally wreaking havoc, before being called back to it's natural plane after the magic expired, they didn't see anyone enter the temple. Thankfully the proximity to the ocean allowed the remaining temple members to put out any flames quickly before the fire spread.
Edit: Fixed typo
