To start off sorry about the corny thread name i couldnt resist. Ive also noticed with my Fighter Jamie Wolf when she was out slaving in the wilds that you cannot capture things like Ogres. She was alone so that makes sense because well.... besides an epic character with +13 to their str modifiers who can capture one alone?
I was thinking what if you had multiple people in your party with you and you subdue it. There can be instances where you might be able to capture him. Of course some groups can't but what if their overall str modifer was equal, or greater, than the Ogres?
Ogre slaves would be rare ((And hopefully not able to be bought by PCs)) and would be hard enough to keep control of that you wont be able to use it as cannon fodder as long because the more angry it gets ((Damage)) the more pissed, and stronger, it is. Because of their rarity they would probably be worth a pretty penny with the slave merchants and because the only people that can really capture them are in a group having the common 80 gold pieces per slave thing would not be enough.
Another thing I thought of is that when in a party its overall str changes how many slaves they can hold. The more jailers in a prison the easier it is to guard with more people right? Say ive got two Sahugains and I cant capture a third and my partner isnt strong enough to do it on her own? If the modifers were added we'd be able to capture it and avoid annoynces of the who GAH stage. And my RL DM gamer friend tells me that the average str mod is around 5 or 6 ((Higher level fighters or barbarians will probably have more, or jsut the lucky biggy)) so for average characters if they can even get him down in the first place would have to both have around 17 strength. And if they are going to enslave a ogre in the first place the PCs will probably be trying tio find others anyways so the extra modifers not used would go to that.
This might work for other things as well such as trolls, giants ((If they are even around and if the group is either extreamly large, lucky, or high level...and well... if they have shackles in that size...)), etc etc etc. Just a consideration at the moment if the DMs think its a good idea I doubt anyone will mind other ideas.
