The Runes of Chaos and Throne of Deceit Campaign
#1
The Simbul paced back and forth impatiently in her private study. Her agents were now exactly one day overdue and she feared the worst but so far had refused to accept it. As the Queen of Aglarond, frequently one of the Red Wizards targets and among their most despised enemies, her attempts to keep her nation safe from Thay often resulted in the disappearance or deaths of her trusted allies and agents in Thay. Tonight was no different.

It deeply pained her, but she once more had to accept the fact that her outside agents had met a fate similar to many that had gone before them. She quit pacing, closed her eyes, and drew in a deep breath, and murmured a pray to her goddess Mystra to guide them to Nirvana and a place of honor in the afterlife.

Opening her eyes, she gritted her teeth and fought back the rage building inside her.

“Calm yourself, Queen of Aglarond,” another female’s voice seemed to echo in her mind.

“What is this sorcery?” the Simbul wondered aloud, and then opened her eyes in gratitude “My lady, is that you?”

Ignoring her questions the female voice continued. “Thay is experiencing a massive internal conflict and stands on the brink of a great change. The zulkirs machinations have reached a critical turning point. If the change they seek comes to pass, it will mean a more powerful and united Thay which will threaten Aglarond, your people, and all of Eastern Faerûn.”

Cold determination welled up in the Simbul and she spoke once more. “What must I do?”

“First, I will tell you about the Vengeful. They have agents already in Thay who can be manipulated and will help you prevent this greater darkness from consuming Thay and covering your lands. It begins with the following individuals...”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to the next chapter of epic Thayan campaigns related to the mysterious allies - the group known as the Vengeful! This campaign will be based on the official Forgotten Realms adventures found in 2nd edition source material for Thay, Aglarond, and Rashemen. However, for any familiar with these adventures, this campaign will still provide surprises outside of the officially documented story.

As with the Wheels in Motion campaign, the details of this campaign are similar, with a few important changes:

I am looking for 4-8 people interested in playing characters involved in this campaign on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. These characters will be the stars of the campaign, but you will be able to play them as much or as little as you like outside of the campaign events too. While this will be primarily a closed campaign to the main characters, I will do my best to incorporate other characters *at approximately the same level as the main campaign PCs* to join the campaign events when they are scheduled, if outside help or interference is applicable to the event. If so, the event time and date will be publicly posted here. The 4-8 main PCs impact will affect the main story of the Thay PW, however they may not end up surviving (even to the end of) this campaign. As will be the theme of all these epic campaigns, death will hover over these PCs at all times as well...

But if you are interested in playing a PC involved as a major part of this campaign, send me a PM before Saturday, June 25 with what days of the week work best for you (in general) to join this campaign. I plan to run several campaign events during the June 29 - July 8 timeframe as I will be taking time off from work during that time to enjoy the summer and just relax a bit.

Additional Details for Interested Players -
1. This campaign will be very much a ‘good vs. evil’ story. And as the heroes of the campaign, I request that the main campaign PCs be of Good or Neutral Alignment. No evil alignments, please.
2. For the first event, the PCs can be between 1st and 4th level. And I do encourage the players involved to play them outside of the campaign events. However, please try to keep all involved within 3 levels of each other at all times though.
3. I am estimating this campaign will run for 2-4 real-time months, but we likely won’t have a major campaign event every week during that time frame, nor need all our main PCs there every week either.
4. Campaign events will typically run during the week anywhere from 2-4 hours once they are scheduled, with the occasional few weekend events that will run anywhere from 2-6 hours.
5. Throughout the course of the 2-4 month campaign, I request that any who are interested will do their best to try and join the major campaign events at least every other time they are scheduled.
6. To support details #3, #4, and #5, I will be asking KTA to setup a separate forum for us to discuss best times of the day and days of the week to hold most sessions. Typically the main players and I will try to come to consensus before I schedule a new campaign event. I would ask that those main campaign players be actively involved on those forums, at least to assist with scheduling.
7. Please note that I am also going to be posting this campaign announcement to the Neverwinter Connections site this weekend, so I’d encourage you to send me your PMs before then if you are seriously considering joining. Requests to join the campaign will be evaluated on first-come, first-serve basis.
