Lycanthropy
#1
When a person contracts lycanthropy through the bite of a level 7+ lycan (werewolf, wererat, werecat, wereboar, werebat, or werebear), no symptoms appear until the first night of the next full moon - the 26th, 27th, or 28th of each month. On that night at dusk, an involuntary change occurs and the person assumes the form of the animal. All lycan characters, regardless of how long they have been infected, are always subject to the involuntary change under each full moon.

If a new lycanthrope succeeds an awareness Wisdom check (DC 15), he becomes aware of his lycanthropic condition. If he fails this check, the individual remembers nothing of the previous night or hours since dusk. These checks occur randomly through the night.

Once a person is aware of their affliction, he can attempt to change to animal or hybrid form by using the Lycan Menu accessed by typing in !lycan. Even if the person becomes aware they have been infected with lycanthropy, he must still roll a Will save (DC + number of times he's transformed). If he fails the save, he starts to assume the alignment of the lycanthrope.

Please note that in the Thay PW, each game hour is 15 real-time minutes. This can result in a considerable amount of time (each in-game ‘night’ lasts about 3 real-time hours) your character is not under your control if it consistently fails the awareness checks. It is understandable and acceptable if a player with an infected PC decides to log off with that character rather than wait for the night to pass. However, the awareness checks that could result in the ability to control your infected character are only performed at night after the transformation to a lycan has occurred.

Changing Form
A person aware of their lycanthropic condition may attempt to change as often as they like at night, with one exception. If they attempt to resume their humanoid form, they only receive one chance. If they fail, they must remain in animal or hybrid form until dawn. Changing to animal or hybrid form ruins the character's armor or clothing unless it succeeds on a DC 15 Fortitude save.

Once in lycan or animal form, an infected PC can infect other PCs and humanoid NPCs as well. Several lycan bonuses are applied to the transformed lycan PC, however while in this state the character may not equip any items, nor may it rest until it is back in humanoid form. In addition, most NPCs will be hostile to the transformed PC as well.

Control Shape Option
Control Shape can be used to control lycanthropy as described in the D&D Monster Manual. Since there is no skill for “Control Shape” in NWN, the “Craft Armor” skill has been substituted for it instead. If you are going to be a lifelong werewolf, start putting points into “Craft Armor” to help control your shape.

The available shapechanging options can be accessed by typing !lycan to open the Lycan menu. Note that the Control Shape option in this menu will only be available once an infected PC has successfully made an awareness check so that they know they have been infected with lycanthropy.

Curing Lycanthropy
Belladonna - An afflicted lycanthrope who eats a sprig of belladonna (also called Wolfsbane) within 1 hour of a lycanthrope's attack can attempt a DC 20 Fortitude save to shake off the affliction. If a healer administers the herb, their Heal skill will be used if it is higher than the lycanthrope’s save. The character gets only one chance, no matter how much belladonna is consumed.

Since belladonna is toxic, the person must succeed on a DC 13 Fortitude save or take 1d6 points of Strength damage. One minute later, they must make the same save again or take 2d6 Strength damage.

Remove Disease or Heal - A Remove Disease or Heal spell cast by a cleric of 12th level or higher also cures the affliction, provided the person receives the spell within three days of the lycanthropes attack.

Remove Curse - The only other way to remove the affliction is to cast “Remove Curse” on the person during one of the three days of the full moon - the 26th, 27th, and 28th of each month. After receiving the spell, the person must succeed on a DC 20 Will Save to break the curse. (The caster knows if the spell works). If the save fails, the process must be repeated. People undergoing this cure are often kept bound or confined in cages until the cure takes effect.

Lycan Hunters
Lycan Hunters will pursue PC Lycans in hybrid form and may employ a variety of tactics. The more often a lycan is observed changing form, or is spotted in a public place in hybrid form, the better chance lycan hunters will find it and the more powerful they will become. Certain areas will thwart their attacks more than others, while some will be much more dangerous. In places where past lycan outbreaks have occurred, lycan hunters will also be much more prevalent. So if your PC plans to live a long life as a lycan, be discrete about it.
