A Change in the Wind

Reesa thought back about the battle, wondering if anyone would write a book about it...

After the Protector addressed the troops and gave some orders, Legionnaire Durn assigned the other troops to places. There were even two Red Wizards there, one named Kaiser who had some sort of warrior following him about, and one called Maurin.

The battle started at the Northwest wall, and the invaders were repelled. Then the battle spilled over to the West gate as well. Reesa and Sarin had helped fire down upon the undead at the west gate, while a Legionnaire named Durn and that wild Knight Vortar held the gate. It seemed there was nothing those two couldn't defeat easily.

Then a wave of demons came, some landing on the wall. Reesa unleased most of her magic, at least at those targets she could see. The darkness the demons used was only effective for a short time, and when the forces defending the west gate had recovered from the initial onslaught, the demons were defeated.

The Protector called for all but a token force to join in the defense of the Northwest wall, as the enemy forces focused their attack there. Whether it was pushing ladders over, or lauching magic, or even taking a whack at some undead who managed to climb up the ladders with her staff, Reesa did her best. She wasn't like those Captains who cut undead in two, or as powerful as the Red Wizards with their magics. But she did what she could, resorting to her staff and rod after most of her magics had been used. Legionnaires, like Duston and Gwen, fought on the wall, and someone she thought was called Sass used the ballista. Waves of flyers came, and the forces repelled them again, before another lull.

She took advantage of the brief respite to replenish some of her magic, and then scouted out the harbor. The Protector had warned to watch the harbor, and soon enough, while the northwest was attacked by bats, she saw waves surging, and sahuagin making their way to the docks. She ran, huffing and puffing, to the northwest wall and called for aid to come to the docks. She then ran back, wondering if any would come. Sarin came, but Reesa was surprised to see some of the stronger Legionnaires and even Red Wizards come to defend the docks and push the Sahuagin back into the sea.

Then the word came to return to the walls, and the forces there did the best they could to hold back the attackers, until the order of the charge was given by the Protector. It was an impressive sight, seeing those powerful warriors and wizards charging out and wiping out the dead, the scattered mercenaries and demons. One of the Legionnaires was clad in orange armor, a Captain she thought. A Tribune rode among them as well.

Afterward, the three zulkirs asked for all to gather in the city, where they paid their respects to the defenders. Well, at least as much as one would expect from one so powerful as a zulkir. The Red Wizard named Kaiser asked who was behind the attack, to which Zulkir Thrull responded that the question was not one to be discussed in public places. Reesa thought her glasses would melt when the Zulkir looked at her and Sarin. He was likely surprised they survived the fighting. Though survival might just be a temporary thing, considering where they next needed to travel. Reesa rather hoped it would not be temporary, since she'd not be able to read any books if that were the case. Though if the afterlife was a big library, then maybe that wouldn't be so bad.
