Perhaps have a few benches beside the furniture merchant for him to showcase his craftsmanship?

That would be very odd because, I doubt a merchant would let people just sit on his wares all day long talking..or covered in bloody armor.

So steal stools from the inns as previously said, Buying them from a furniture merchant should work too.
