Ohgma's Encyclopedia of Thay
Frustrated by the terrible disorganization of libraries throughout Thay which made it next to impossible to research simple facts and tidbits of knowledge, an acolyte of Ohgma compiled this handy reference tome.
+5 Lore
3x/day Allows User to attempt a Research check as though in a library to obtain Research Notes for quests given by NPC's, bypassing the need to rest between each of these three research attempts.
Weight of item: 10 lbs. (or maybe even 15 lbs.) Since a large tome shouldn't be light.
My vote for best suggestion. Useful without being overpowering, and not another combat related item.
I have to agree, this is a wonderful suggestion! I have a few more ideas, will see if they stick to the wall. Combat and non-combat related. We need to show some love to non-combat oriented folks, nay?
I agree on all accounts. :)
Edit: I also want to stress that items suggestions which have some type of description on them stand a much better chance of happening since that reduces the need for me to be creative. The only custom items that do not have descriptions in Thay are the standard +1 and +2 items, and I intend to keep it that way. there's a story behind everything....what's your item's story? ;)

I like all the ideas, but my favourite has to be 'Oghmas Encyclopedia'. Like the idea of extra chance to get the notes without too much resting in between. :D

Agreed. We have an Atlas, why not an Encyclopedia? Should definitely use the equipable book model though (unlike the atlas), and also if it's a reward, it shouldn't be as heavy as the atlas either, imho, after all, scholastic characters aren't exactly known for their strength... and the book could be more thick than large with smaller print... or just flat out blessed by Oghma to be more convenient for carrying around...

Maybe some glasses of Clear Sight in case they have any problems with their eyes.

Miniature Steam Golem of Distraction: Magnus, a follower of Gond, was tired of being pestered by those seeking to purchase his golems. When customers still persisted even after being told "These are not the golems you are looking for", Magnus took action. He created a miniature golem that could fit in his pocket, and upon winding it up, the golem would turn into a life-sized replica of Magnus. For a period of 24 hours (while its energy stores lasted), the golem gave Magnus the freedom to move about without distraction and focus on the actual crafting of works in honor of Gond, as others were duped by the double. Sadly, the creation could only be used once, as when it ran out of steam, it crumbled into dust. When enterprising wizards got wind of this, they arranged to 'acquire' a few of these pocket golems for their own use. When the assassins guild found out that some of their 'marks' were not actually the 'marks', they got to the bottom of it. Sadly, Magnus' crafting career was thus cut short. However, some of those he created still exist, awaiting use. One rumor even says one of the larger golems he created can craft the miniature golems.
Power: For a 24 hour period, the user is free from the worry of assassin attacks. I see this as a one use (or maybe two, but very limited use none the less) item before it crumbles into dust.

Ishaq Zur's Skeleton Key
Description:
This small bronze key is unremarkable in all aspects, excepting the small engravation, I.Z.
Ishaq Zur has enchanted this key to outright break many, if not all, of the mundane locks commonly found in Toril, as well as to assist the wearer to open these locks themselves should the magic already have been spent. While the magic of the key never truly runs out, it requires re-charging to make use of its most devastating lock-breaking power.
Powers:
Knock one or two times a day.
Permanent bonus to Open Lock

Personally against the idea of more then once a day knock. No lockpick bonu, since I think lockpicking should remain in the realm of rogues and knock in the realm of casters or anyone who invested UMD, especially rogue as its a class trait and helps make them valuable outside of simply scouting and doing sneak damage. Just my opinion though.

Personally, I know as well as everyone that fugueing is a big set back.
I would suggest a ONE TIME USE item that when you go to the fugue plane, you are given the option to go back to your corpse without losing notoriety or experience. A one time use item would be helpful indeed.
I know it was intended to be a setback but that is why it would be a one time use for each character. You could have the option of either giving up your xp or using that item as a sort of Get out of Jail Free card.
