Marister- Man of Mystery
#21
Daeris had smiled at the two then she walked in. Greetings were exchanged and basic conversations out of the way. Awhile later, Alyisse related her conversation that she had with Amalia. Both Marister and Daeris frowned. Marister confirmed he had the same misgivings that Alyisse expressed. We all agreed to still be her friend but if Amalia had decided it was the way she wanted we could only let her do so.

The conversation took a different twist when Alyisse mentioned Tyrael's "command" so to speak in regards to Alyisse, himself and Amalia. It sounded like he was threatening her, which did not sit well with Daeris or Marister. They both reassured Alyisse nothing would happen if they could help it. A while later Tribune Baxter walked in and naturally Alyisse stood up and went to his side. However she had asked to be excused and went upstairs. Marister also decided he should leave but before he did he had whispered something she should discuss with the Tribune.

He then bid them farewell.

As was his custom, after finishing his meditations, he left hos home to go practice. No sooner than he had shut the door, when a raven dropped a letter.
It was from Daeris and he frowned as he read it. Putting it in a pouch, he called for his horse and rode as fast as he could to Amruthar.

He ran inside and when he saw no one below he ran upstairs. As he got to the top floor he saw Alyisse in her black robe standing guard by the main bedroom door.
Her the voice of Daeris and one other who he guessed was the Elf she had been helping. Alyisse look tired and paler then normal. She confirmed that Daeris was attacked by assassins. It took some effort on his part but he convinced her she should rest a bit as he did not want her to fall into the stew pot. He heard Daeris chuckle at the comment.

He helped Alyisse down the stairs. She would not go to relax until he had his blades out showing that he would stand guard. He chuckled to himself as he knew they would be safe. He sheathed his blades and went over to sit by her. She had already started to go into reverie. He put his arm around her and she fell into him curled up, legs tucked in. He smiled knowing that she needed this. However she was not in for long as she was summoned by the Tribune. He growled but he knew he could not have stopped it.

Daeris had come down and he told her what happened. She frowned as she also knew Alyisse needed rest. After some prodding, Dearis told Marister of the attack.
She then mentioned what she had observed in regards to Alyisse's health. Marister frowned and Alyisse's words came back to him "My life is short." His mind raced as he recalled that conversation. He had promised he would not tell Daeris, but Alyisse could be in real trouble given the symptoms described.

He convinced Daeris maybe her people did something to her in retaliation to her being a part of the raid. Daeris acknowledged they could have and would try and contact those she knew to try and help. He cursed the Tribune under his breath and hope he was smart enough to realize something was not quite right about her. and allow her to continue reverie.

After awhile Daeris's Elf came down and they were introduced. The conversation was a change but he could not get Alyisse off his mind. He excused himself and went out to get some air. He prayed that Alyisse was too ill to go and that they would keep her and Daeris here.

He awoke having spent the night at Daeris house. God's what an insufferable night it was. The day had started decent enough. Daeris had visited him in Tyra responding to a letter he thought he had written. She looked at it again and blushed slightly as it was from another. It was decided we would go to her home and hopefully Alyisse was there.

We arrived and as the door was opened, we could smell the delicious food and knew she was there. She was not alone however as the Tribune was there.
We were not surprised. While Daeris played hostess, Marister had gone into the kitchen to see if Alyisse needed help. She looked much better than when he had last seen her though still a bit pale. She was happy as se was able to make a meal for several people. They sat in the living while Alyisse served them. The meal was good and everyone complimented her.

The tribune's reason for coming aside from the dinner was to seek help as Shianne need shark's teeth. None of us accepted and we thought he would leave to join her but he did not so the small talk continued until about an hour or so Shianne entered as the Tribune had not returned to her or sent notice, at least Marister had not seen it. She said she would postpone her trips as Master Kalos was not available. The talk then change to possible actions in regards to the upcoming raids. Just when it looked like things were coming to a close, Ne'umbria appeared.
She relayed why she had come and then afterwards her ribbing of the Tribune brought some welcome breath of fresh air.

It was not until Alyisse asked to be excused and Daeris mentioned that she too needed rest that the "party" broke up and people left. It seemed the previously planned discussion would not occur.

Marister headed to the tavern to refresh his supplies feeling frustrated but he realized there was nothing that could of been done unless the social graces were to be ignored. He understood the hospitality tradition of Elves but even that can have it limits on the host. He had been noticing the subtle hints Daeris was giving in regards to her and Evange'len all night which most would of taken as a hint to leave. He was tempted to leave first but did not.

He returned to the house to rest when he saw Alyisse. He smiled warmly. He knew their time would be limited and it seemed Daeris and Evange'len were not about. They talked about the topics in the letter he sent and a few other things. Before he left, said he would pray for her and Daeris safe return. She smiled warmly though a brief flash of concern played upon her face. His heart was heavy as he ascended the stairs wondering if they would return alive.

He was at home in front of the fire on the bear rug, his head resting on the bear's head thinking about recent events and the letter Daeris had sent. He laughed to himself at the reaction of the invaders having been greatly pushed back by the Simbal's forces. He did not condone the action and was saddened by the loss of life on both sides. What were they expecting after the first raid?
For her and her people to lie on their backs, stomachs exposed like a submissive dog? Everyone has a right to defend their territory, though in his opinion, animals do it better. He had never met the Simbal but only knew her by reputation and based on the most recent skirmish, her reputation was justified.

The first letter he received from Daeris, had asked him to come to her home. They went downstairs as she had wanted to talk about the room's usage after her primary topic. She related everyone we knew survived as they were better prepared in regards to the Elves, Druids and rangers but not the griffon riders.
Dearis shuddered as she related their experiences and he nodded in sympathy. Alyisse she said, had done well and most likely resting at the Tribune's house.

The conversation then turned to the room they were in. Daeris was thinking maybe having a tavern of some sorts and since she knew Marister had experiences working in them she would ask his opinions. The conversation was a much needed change from their previous ones and when it was time to part, as Daeris wanted to do some shopping, they both felt in lighter spirits.

He then turned to the letter he had just received, he frowned slightly as he read it but then shook his head and said to himself.
" How desperate is that man that he would resort to such?"

He tossed the letter into the fire. He would honor Daeris request for now. The question is, would anyone else believe what was said?

He was headed home after warding two Elves who recently arrived so they could survive their trip through the catacombs. His protections were minimal at best.
As he arrived at his home, a raven dropped a letter for him from Daeris asking him to come to her home.

He arrived, rested and headed downstairs has the door was open. He smiled as he looked around at the progress she had made and she probably wanted his opinion again. However when she turned to face him, something else he felt was on her mind. He would not press he knew she would reveal it in time and she did. She elaborated on their previous discussion and he frowned as he heard it. He was not surprised but it was still troublesome. After more discussion about furniture placement and more personal subject for Daeris was discussed. He offered her support and told her it would be all right.

The hour was getting late and he was about to leave when he heard footsteps and a gown rustle. They both turned to see Alyisse. She looked worn and her arm was bandaged. He went over to examine it and to his satisfaction it seemed to have been tended to professionally. She briefly explained what had transpired both he and Daeris frowned. He then gave her a restorative potion. He had wanted to stay, to give her comfort but he knew he could not as it could endanger them all. He whispered his farewell to her and as he did, in a mocking scalding tone, Daeris suggested he leave quickly. Though it hurt him to, he chuckled in spite of himself as Daeris sounded like his mother. Well she was old enough to be, heck she was old enough to be his grandmother. He bade them both farewell, his heart and mind troubled.

He was glad Amalia had come to talk to him to tell him of her news and ask advice as she had done in the past. He had noticed a newer maturity in the way she carried herself and spoke.

She told him of the new twist her life had taken and her concerns. He did his best to assure her and promised he would try and visit.
She seemed relieved and gave him a gentle hug as she had done in the past. He escorted her to the caravan and watched as she boarded.

The talk with Daeris in the Druidess's garden had him concerned. Life for both of them was becoming more complicated. He knew Daeris eventually would figure things out but he offered her some advice and said he would be there if he was needed. He would need to speak to Alyisse which would be a hard thing to do given the Tribune's order to her. His only hope would be that they would run into each other in a public place.

That was not the only thing on his mind. The discussion he had elsewhere with another, left him shaken.

The Goddess's had heard his prayers. He and Alyisse were able to meet. He told her he was pleased that she was being able to use her other skills again.
He also told her that Daeris was proud of her. She smiled slightly at the compliments then she began to talk about the attacks and the rumors as to why the last one failed.

He frowned slightly as she spoke confirming what he had heard. He tried to reassure her that nothing would come of the rumors. She felt reassured somewhat but he could sense she was still a bit frightened. He also was afraid but tried to keep it from showing.

Knowing they would have to part soon, he brought up the topic only they knew of as indirectly the results of the rumors could affect it. As he had before he vowed he would do all he could to make sure the worse did not come about. She smiled slightly at that and then they went their separate ways.

He had a lot on his mind lately and decided to spend some time at Chauntea's shrine.

The attack of the Simbul's forces on Tyraturos did not surprise him. Unfortunately he was present and had to make a "showing of it". Since there were others wielding blades he decided to hang back and use his bow knowing that his chances of hitting them before the blade weilders struck was slim. Unfortunately the riders lead the defenders northward, right outside the Shrine of Silvanus where the riders were finally defeated. One died right at the base of the Druidess's shrine and to make matters worse, the red wizard which was present turned that ridered to a an undead creature a dread warrior. He was sickened at the sight but knew he could do nothing. Daeris and Alyisse were also at the rear of the conflict with him using their bows. He could not be sure if they were aiming or not.

As was his custom he checked the defenders for any injured. He had noticed Baxter's gaze on him. The wizard pleased with the outcome, gave a reward to be divided amongst us. Alyisse was chosen to distribute the gold. He did not want to take what he deemed blood money but appearances had to be kept.

After the wizard left everyone went their separate ways. He had found out a few days later that the Tribune was upset at the close proximity of he and Alyisse. What in the hells was wrong with that man? In battle you keep close to your allies.

Although, prior to setting up his camp, he tithed all of the blood money to the shrine which made him feel on slightly better. Having finally pushed the battle far back into his mind, his next concern to review was Daeris.

He was still at the Shrine and as he was watching the sunset his mind returned to thoughts of Daeris. To him it seemed as one door closed for her another opened and not always pleasant.
Daeris's "ghosts" have returned.

The return of the first one was quite a shock as they were not as she remembered yet she knew. With the assistance of himself and others, Lash as he preferred to be called is finally remembering what he lost and he and Daeris are starting over. He had never seen Daeris so happy. Her happiness to him is being threatened as another from her past a dragonkin named Lachlan or Locke as she called him also returned.

He is a Thayan Knight who was in the service of Omnipotence Thrune. They had several discussions in regards to him. As a friend, he gave her his opinions which were also echoed by Alyisse who finally accepted Lash fully and they have been working together. He would pray to the Goddesses that Daeris would stay true to the new path she had set. For if she did not more than her life would be affected, as there was the one who has suffered during their life and would even more so in the afterlife.

He was torn but he had made a promise and he would not break it.
