No lockpick bonu, since I think lockpicking should remain in the realm of rogues and knock in the realm of casters or anyone who invested UMD, especially rogue as its a class trait and helps make them valuable outside of simply scouting and doing sneak damage. Just my opinion though.
I agree. Makes for more challenging rp. :)

I would suggest a ONE TIME USE item that when you go to the fugue plane, you are given the option to go back to your corpse without losing notoriety or experience. A one time use item would be helpful indeed.
I know it was intended to be a setback but that is why it would be a one time use for each character. You could have the option of either giving up your xp or using that item as a sort of Get out of Jail Free card.
As Thayan mentioned , what would be the story behind it? Who made it or if a god gift which one?It would have been nice to have before the reset. :)
The fugue is a pain and a setback but it is also a leanring experience as is when you are saved by the friends. Trying to prevent yourself for dying that way again by either going with people or saving up gold and xp to buy or modify an item to increase your survival chance.

I want to give a heads-up that items based off suggestions from TrioThePunch, WingsOfStardust, Pleiade, Nehetsrev, and Karilynn will be found in game with the next server update. For those of you who have posted though, I've still got a couple others planned from other suggestions already provided as well. But I just wanted to let everyone know that I *am* getting inspiration from your ideas here (especially those with a story behind them) and while not all are being created exactly as described, I'm trying to stay true to their original intent if they are not.
So keep them coming if you have a cool idea (or ten) that you'd like to mention.

Does the Penguinator +2 need a history?

I enjoy all of the creativity expressed here in the posts,,, so don't get me wrong when I suggest a few basic magic items right out of the DMG.
1> Bag of Holding..... as a quest item and not a buyable,,, everyone has the chance to get one, and not 20.... It is one of the most useful items in NWN. This is especially true for physically weak characters like oh say Wizards.
2> Luck Stone..... as a quest item from a representative of Tymora, maybe in that new Temple Barry keeps talking about.
3> Murlynd's Spoon..... as a quest item at low level may keep more people on the HTF system... and it can make for an interesting RP as its bland gruel.
4> Canteen of Endless Water... ok this is not in the DMG but precedence is set by the Decanter of Endless Water... however this could function like the spoon and just give endless drinks.
5> Helm of Comprehend Languages and Reading Magic..... as a quest item it would give the possessor obvious advantages when dealing with the various races that inhabit Thay. A powerful item in the right hands.
Here is a self creation that just came to mind... an item that all casters would want to get their hands on...
6>Quill of "Choose a Name"... it is a Scribing Quill that allows for the scribing of scrolls at twice the Gold cost and No XP cost... created either at the Temple of Oghma or maybe by the owner of the Library in Tyra. They wanted a way to craft all of the scrolls they have for sale w/o the need to go adventuring to regain the XP lost.... This may encourage casters in the game to use the scribe scroll ability more.... ((you may need to make the scrolls unsellable to avoid exploitation to gain more money from selling them at higher prices than the cost to make them)).

Two decades before the time of troubles,
Red Wizard Xylax did decree, "My knight,
Though great as thou art, you need my power.
Bring me the feathers of penguins thousands,
and you will spread their kind throughout Thay." Good
Knight did butcher and slaughter penguins and
brought all their feathers to master Xylax.
Then Xylax gave the genocidal knave
a sword that turned weak into penguins.

Well, Barry is planning on starting a temple to Tymora in either Eltabbar, Tyraturos, or Bezantur. He is away right now, and also doesn't have enough money, or any other faithful of Tymore and support in general for it.

This won't happen because of the absence of such helps to manage lag.

What's the difference then, in terms of lag creation, between that and backpacks/boxes that people already use, and can fill their inventory with if they so chose? If we make it a bag of holding a quest item, limiting it to one per, shouldn't logically be at least no worse on lag than the backpacks already in place?

I vote for increased rarity on some of these items..maybe by adding them to the loot matrix rather than everyone have copies of the same items
