Gamespy Not Showing Servers
#1
Currently, Gamespy is not showing NWN servers. The History seems to be working, but nothing else is functioning at the moment.

Hopefully, this is a temporary issue and it gets resolved soon. I just thought I'd toss the information out there before anyone wonders what's going on.

Note: I only noticed because people were talking about it in the BW Social Forums. I direct connect, so this doesn't really hurt me all that much.

If it becomes a long term issue, it could make getting new players difficult without a stronger PW promoting presence elsewhere (ie the social forums).

Having read further on this issue, it sounds like it might be permanent. Gamespy did an internal audit and severed everything that was no longer being supported by its publisher (so I hear). I guess NWN2 also falls into this category.

While people are talking about potential replacements in the social forums, the best approach would be to ramp up our activity wherever NWN's can be found.

I'm not sure how many of our current players found Thay via Gamespy, but it's worth watching. It might not have much of an effect around here at all, considering the most common approach to that service seemed to be filtering by number of players online and going with one of the top ones.

I will say that Thay's been increasingly active, so maybe it had reached the point where it Gamespy was pulling in people.

Yeah, I read that last night. I do believe that it was the numbers being seen on the Gamespy list that helped attract some new players. now we don't have that benefit. Terrible news. But to avoid the doom and gloom whining that seems to be so prevalent from some on the social forums, I’ll just leave it at that.

So, I guess this means Thay will probably need to be advertised more in the places where there is still the presence of NWN gamers. I hate doing a blanket request of “please get out and shamelessly promote this PW”, but without having the master list of PWs available in the NWN game itself, I do feel everyone who likes Thay and would like to see the playerbase remain strong may need to do a little bit of ‘word-of-mouth’ advertising. So any conversations with other gamers in NWN or out of NWN to bring them to check out the PW is certainly welcome and appreciated.

I’ve not started a thread for Thay in the PW subforum of the social site, but now it’s probably time. Is anyone willing to start a nice/interesting/informative/whatever thread on the Social site PW subforum for Thay? And as part of that ‘shameless promotion’, post the link here so that other community members can go and gush about how amazingly wonderful we are. ;)

I’ll go back to the NWVault site when I return and request the Thay PW front page ad be re-run.

Is there anything else we should do to try to make our presence as well known as possible to NWN gamers? Is there anywhere else we could/should advertise ourselves?

Well aside from the bioware social page, a facebook account. There is a facebook dedicated to NWN I and II. One of the other PW I play on has one set up.
Also neverwinterconnections.com has recently come back on line however the search feature to find a server by name not active at the moment, you can scroll through the pages and I believe Thay is still there. The schedule a game tab works so maybe have a general get to know Thay day.

Another potential site to mention the PW would be GOG, since the game is available for purchase on that site. They have a NWN sub-forum.

I'm sure I can put together a nice post. Just let me know anything specific that I should mention.

There's also this forum, which has been set up in an attempt to collect PW information.
It just started as a direct response to this situation, so there's no telling whether or not it will catch on.

Could put a post somewhere claiming we have a stash of Twinkies located on the server.

Seriously, all of these ideas are good. Any advertisement is good. Getting the word out is just good all around. Cool
