Yes, no matter where you put them. The reason for doing this is to make sure nothing interferes with your new installation. Also - once you uninstalled nwn make sure you DELETE the folder it was installed in like C:\NeverwinterNights. Very important.

Defraging the machine, registry's been cleaned. Its been going for about 8 hours. Once its done I'll try installing neverwinter nights and seeing if it'll work. I'll run Ani's link too

Defrag for my computer (Quad core 2.5 GHz with a 1TB HDD) took 13 hours.
So it can take a while for defrags.
