Thay PW Setting Reboot
#1
The Thay PW will go through a complete setting reboot sometime within the next 3-6 months. The reboot will result in all databases and player vaults being wiped with the in-game clock starting back at sometime around 1357 DR. For our players, as a 'thank you' for all the time you have spent adventuring and effort you have put into your long-term or actively played characters, I would like to help ensure that at least one of your characters reaches (at least one of) its loftiest goals and is playable by you up until the time the reboot occurs. Whether it is becoming a zulkir, tharchion, faction leader, building an army, capturing or destroying a city or town, inciting rebellion and fighting the Red Wizards, or whatever other idea you may have - I would like to try and make it happen for your PC.

When considering this though, please note that I do not want to spend much, if any, design time implementing these requests. Try to keep the majority of your goals reachable via DM events. So if you have a goal that requires something that must be created in the NWN toolset like new areas, scripts, or creatures - please think about how you can use existing things in-game instead. But if it is important that you have some design time spent on your goals, include that though and I (or another member of the staff) will see what we can do to implement that.

I would like for any who are interested in this offer to PM me the following information:
1. Player login name to the server
2. Name of the PC
3. The goal for your PC and any plans or important milestones you had for achieving that goal
4. Any questions or concerns you have regarding a server reboot and how it will affect you

More information will be coming in this thread at a later time regarding compensation options after the setting reboot for active players.

As hopefully everyone knows, the Thay setting reboot is nearing. To give people an estimate as to when this will occur, I will say that the setting reboot is now approximately 4-6 weeks away. At that time, all PCs, database information, and any events/background since the beginning of this incarnation of the Thay world will be reset to 0 and we will start again with the in-game clock set back to around the 1356-57 DR timeframe. Since I know there are many people chomping at the bit to get their PC requests in for the setting reboot, I will go ahead and open this period. Please note that opportunity for an existing PC as mentioned in the first post of this thread is closed.

So, what this means is active and/or long-term players are invited to PM me directly with a request for special compensation options for one new PC after the setting reboot. The following is a list of options that you may choose from:
-Bonus Gold
-Building Deed
-Special item(s) with properties requested by the PC
-Create a subrace PC
-Create a new PC with a special background, title, or position (Thayan Noble, Autharch, etc)*
-Retire PC (can't be recreated after the reboot) and place in the world as a NPC Questgiver, Faction Contact or Leader, Boss Enemy, etc*
-Create a special building or location (house, tower, faction headquarters, planar pocket, etc) in the world to which your PC will have access. It will be the player's responsibility to create the area and send to Thayan for inclusion in the world*
-Player's Choice (within reason)

*The caveat here is that it cannot conflict with source material though.

If you wish to request something special for a new PC after the setting reboot, send me a PM with the following information:
1. Set the subject of your PM as: Special PC Request for [Playername]
2. Player login name to the server
3. Name of the new PC you wish to create
4. The special compensation item(s) you wish to receive for this PC
5. Any questions or concerns you have regarding a server reboot and how it will affect you

Even if you have already spoken to me or another DM about your compensation options already, still send me this PM as I will be doing the ultimate approval/rejection/revision of special requests and compiling the list to provide to the staff and DMs so they can help me implement these requests after the setting reboot.

You MUST get any special PC request to me before New Years Day on January 1, 2013. I will *not* accept any new requests after that time since I and the DMs will be busy with the final events for the current campaign and preparing for all the necessary changes that come with the setting reboot.

Just a friendly, and last, reminder to send me any special PC reboot requests before January 1, 2013 per the guidelines in the previous post.

Happy Holidays!

At this point the window for requesting special compensation for a PC after the setting reboot has closed. Please no more new requests or revisions to existing requests as I need to focus on other necessary work for the reboot.

We have a little less than two weeks until the conclusion of the current Deserved Damnation campaign which will end this setting, and then there will be around a week or two of OOC fun/celebration time after that before the reboot actually occurs. Another post will be coming in the next few weeks with more information in regard to what to expect with the pending setting reboot.

FYI - at the point of the setting reboot all threads in the ' Character Backgrounds' subforum will be moved into an archive and can not be continued or edited further but can still be viewed.

Thanks to everyone who was able to make our second-to-last Deserved Damnation event and for everyone else there in spirit. ;)

Next week’s event is the finale of this campaign and the last one before the setting reboot. Where has the time gone?! In an effort to try and get as many people there as possible, please respond to this poll with the best proposed time(s) and date(s) that you can make the event. It will probably run for around 4 hours, at which point the reboot celebration period will begin.

What is the reboot celebration? Well, I’m glad you asked. Here is what to expect with this OOC celebration after the finale has concluded:

Reboot Celebration Details
At the conclusion of the Deserved Damnation campaign, the following will occur:
1. The version of the module prior to the destruction of the Temples of Umberlee and Loviatar will be loaded
2. ALL PCs will see new options in the Player Menu to give unlimited XP and gold to themselves
3. The temporary level cap increase will remain at level 25
4. There will be numerous chests placed throughout the world with various unique items in Thay like Dynamic Magic Items, hoods of disguise, cloaks of invisibility, rings of spell turning, and many, many other ‘fun’ stuff to play with. These chests will be replenished with every server reset - but please use some restraint and only take items from the chest that you truly want to use. Don’t be a hoarder!
5. The respawn script will be removed so simply clicking the respawn button will revive you in your current location.
6. There will be an in-game journal entry explaining this information and that the world is in an OOC state of ‘reboot celebration’.

This period is simply ‘for fun’ as the final preparations are made for the setting reboot. Use it to design character builds you’d like to try in Thay, do some PvP testing, and go adventuring in places you’re maybe not familiar with. This reboot celebration will last for only a week or two at the most, at which point the setting reboot will occur and we will revert back and enforce the regular server rules and guidelines for our roleplay server which can found here.

The server is now in the OOC period of the Reboot Celebration. It has been brought to my attention that the items in the chest are not IDed. If your PC does not have Lore high enough to ID them, I will be putting in an addition to the Item OnAcquire script which will auto-ID any item you pick up. This will not take affect until much later today and, once again, if you don't plan on using an item please put it back in the chest.

In addition, the notoriety restriction to select prestige classes has been removed.

Finally, by Sunday after I have been able to get some work done on the new module, I will make a decision as to the when the setting reboot will occur. It is either going to be January 26 or February 2. I know I said 2 weeks max for the OOC celebration, but due to the number of very big and important changes that need to be made to the new module, which I have not had a real good chance to solely focus on with the campaign, my trip, and the holidays, I may need an extra week to complete some of these changes which would bring us to February 2. Regardless - I have not decided the specific date yet. I will make a decision by the evening of January 13.

In the meantime - enjoy playing any level PC you like and loading it up with cool goodies during our celebration period!
