The Prelude

“Many of the recent wave of promising are rising to power in different ways. Some have proven more adept than others, but that was what we expected. We already have others being watched to replace those who have already failed, and we continue to identify more all the time.

Our informants tell us that the zulkirs are truly planning invasions of both Rashemen and the Wizard’s Reach - again. I think the invasion of the Wizard’s Reach will be a good test to see how many or our promising survive, or even thrive.

Make sure they are in the path of the zulkir’s agents when the time comes. Hopefully when the dust settles, we have some who are better positioned to carry out our plans. And for the rest...may the gods help them.”

The specter of war hangs over Thay. Filled with powerful legions and a vast number of creatures and creations beholden to its Red Wizard masters, the realm is practically overflowing its borders with combat-ready troops ready to finally expand beyond the plateau of Thay in any direction it can.

Rumors speak of Szass Tam’s undead Legion of Myrkul, the vaunted Griffon Legion, and other weapons and monsters of Thay massing to the north in preparation for yet another invasion of Rashemen. Meanwhile, in the southern, more inhabited regions of Thay there have been increases of agents and Red Wizard apprentices said to be in the service of the schools of Conjuration and Evocation hiring mercenaries for various strange tasks. All these portents lead warmongers to claim the time has finally come for another attempt to attack and claim the Wizard’s Reach or even Aglarond in the name of Thay!

The first major campaign of the rebooted setting is about to begin. As with the last campaign I ran, I will try to make events open to anyone that can make the time they are scheduled. However, I also wish to get back to having a core group of up to 8 people who are involved in the more intimate details of the campaign. That means they will participate in some ‘closed’ events only open to them, which I hope may make the overall event experience of this campaign more enjoyable for everyone involved.

For those who are interested in joining the core group of players for this campaign, please carefully review the following:
1. This campaign will run for approximately 3 months, and scheduled weekly to bi-weekly events for this small group will be held by me during the weekdays between 7:00-10:00 PM CST, or during the weekends between 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM CST. You will not need to make every event, and we can shift days as the group needs - but I do ask that before you request to become one of this group you will generally be available during those timeframes for the next ~3 months
2. The character who you wish to have join this event must be between level 5-10. It is recommended the character be of evil or neutral alignment.
Note that this does *not* apply to people who just plan on joining the open events. I will post any level guidelines for those, if applicable.
3. Next, and almost as important, characters who join as part of this ‘inner circle’ will be dealing with powerful forces, ambitious Red Wizards, treacherous monsters, and worse - each other. After the battles, intrigue, and betrayals have taken their toll most will not be standing. So if you join this campaign, you are essentially rolling the 100-sided dice for your PC and if you roll less than a 75, it will pay the ultimate price at the end, or during, the campaign...
4. So what is the benefit of joining this group if there’s a very good chance your PC will die? The answer is in-game power, relationships with certain powerful individuals in Thay, and some intangible benefits that cannot be obtained through other means will be bestowed on your PC if it survives. To say more might give too many hints as to the story...but trust me, those who prove most cunning or resourceful should find the great risk they put their PC in worth the reward.
5. If you are interested in joining this group, send me a PM. I will need to know by March 23 who wants to join the core group.

For those who can’t or don’t want to join the core group of players involved in this campaign, keep an eye on this thread and I will post times for open events. In addition, our DMs will be running related adventure hooks to this campaign throughout the next several months. These may, or may not, be announced as well.

Runners and messengers are sent throughout Thay from the Lapendrar. The Tharchion of the Lapendrar, Hargrid Tenslayer, calls mercenaries of some skill and patriots of Thay to the 'free' city of Amruthar on the following days to see if they are worthy of a great honor to be bestowed on them in service to the realm. Come prepared to test yourself against others and to demonstrate a knowledge of defensive and offensive battle tactics.

There will be two open events in relation to this campaign held Wednesday, April 3 at 7:00 PM CST and Sunday, April 7 at 3:00 PM CST. Please be in or around Amruthar somewhere at those times if you wish to join!

The call for all patriots and mercenaries of Thay goes out! War has been declared on the towns and cities of the Wizard’s Reach, and it is time for each to finally recognize their true masters – the Red Wizards of Thay. Behind legions of Efreeti and Salamander allies summoned by the supreme magic of the zulkirs of Conjuration and Evocation, warriors, wizards, and priests of all religions are called upon to advance the charge and assist in the capture of these towns for the glory of Thay.

Those brave and worthy enough to heed the call to arms are to join with the Lapendrar legion at the Keep of Sorrows to march with the army to the towns of Murbant and Thasselen. The esteemed Tharchion of the Lapendrar, Hargrid Tenslayer, will personally meet with the armies at the Keep of Sorrows before taking command of the primary assault against the city of Escalant.

The cities of the Wizard’s Reach stand on the brink of capture and enslavement. Be at the Keep fo Sorrows to participate in the mayhem this Wednesday at 7:00 PM CDT

We had a nice turnout last night, and thanks to everyone who participated. It was the start of big and important times for all of Thay! For those who were there, you are also invited to attend the next event as the Red Wizards attempt to counter an unexpected turn of events this Sunday, May 5, at 3:00 PM CDT.

The Salamander war still rages in the south of Thay and the newly conquered Wizard's Coast territory now being ravaged by angry Salamanders. Thasselen and Murbant changes hands on a daily basis, and travel across the Priador is still fraught with danger by the Salamanders and the fire-creatures they manage to call forth. But something more is brewing...and for some reason adventurers and defenders of Thay receive anonymous messages that they will soon be needed on the Alaor.

How or why the island tharch, surrounded by the Alamber Sea, could possibly be threatened by the war on the Wizard's Coast is a subject of hushed debate among those so summoned. But regardless, many make preparations to travel to the Alaor...

The next event open to everyone will be on Wednesday, June 12 at 7:00 PM CDT. This is open to everyone, but mid-level PCs will probably enjoy it the most since it will likely feature combat heavy scenarios.

An urgent summons goes out to all mercenaries and adventurers from the tharchion of the Alaor, Thessaloni Canos asking for all to gather on the south Bezantur docks to marshal their resources and ships will be conscripted into service to transport them to the Alaor. It is said that even units of Szass Tam's undead Myrkul's Legion have been ordered to heed the call to arms and will be assembling with any living counterparts for transport to the Alaor Naval Base.

If you are attending this event tonight, please try to be in Bezantur right away at 7:00 PM CDT. There the fun will begin...

After the defeat and annihilation of forces they somehow transported to the Alaor island, the Salamander army has begun to mass in the eastern Priador and now poses an imminent threat to Thay's largest city - Bezantur. The tharchion of Bezantur, Mari Agneh, has sent out an urgent summons for mercenaries to come to Bezantur and bolster the gate defenses if she is 'forced' to march her legion out to meet the Salamander army and ensure it does not cut of Bezantur from the rest of Thay.

While some observers have called meeting the enemy on open ground a foolhardy tactic, the legion is most definitely mobilizing for operations outside the city with mounted units seen in increasing frequency in the city, and mercenary units are being selectively chosen to fill certain gaps should the legion march...

This will be the final open event of this campaign! If you are interested in attending, please note the first part of the event will be for campaign PCs only, but approximately an hour into it, sometime shortly after 8:00 PM CDT tomorrow, June 26, all PCs will be welcome to join. Please be in Bezantur around the Central Citadel if you wish to attend.

Well, I know I said the last public event would be the last announced event, but I would like to open the first part of tonight's campaign finale to everyone. If you can make it, please be in Bezantur around 7:00 PM CDT for the victory triumph and address by the tharchion! The first part of this finale that everyone can be involved with should go no longer than a half hour, so it shouldn't take up too much of your time if you can be there.
