A Question on Gods
#1
Not having played a FR world before, I'm a little bit at a loss trying to wrap my mind around the Deities, specifically as it relates to my PC and his being of Mulan extraction. :)

First question, which is it? Mulan, or Mulorandi? Sometimes it looks like they are the same, and other not. I ask this because it seem that there is a Mulhorandi pantheon, which I failed to recognize when I selected my God in the Mind's Eye.

My RP goals I will keep to myself for now :P, but I will say that this PC is big on protection. So...I chose Helm, as scrolling through the list on first glance I picked out the Domain of Protection, and that the God Himself is LN, and allowed LE alignments in his clerics, so figured that would be good enough for me. ;) I also have a secondary Deity if you will, and that is Siamorphe, who is all about Nobles, Rightful Rule of Nobility, and Human Royalty; perfect for a Thayn. :)

However, by my being of Mulan descent, would my PC more naturally gravitate toward a Mulhorandi deity? In that case, then I would have picked Gilgeam as the best fit.

But then I read here that Gilgeam is also closely associated with Unther...and then I read somewhere else that Gilgeam is actually dead! :s

So, for those that have the Lore of this place better understood than I, please...help a brother out! lol

I know that it is too late to change my God, or if I do there would be RP repercussions. I'm just curious though if that is still the case since my decision was based on OOC ignorance rather than IG RP driving the change. Huh

Thanks!

1. There is a thread you can check out for all the information of the gods of Faerun here http://thaypw.org/showthread.php?tid=22.
2. The nationality is Mulan, the language and pantheon are Mulhorandi.
3. Not necessarily. Mulan are the upper class of Thay but they don't all stick to their Mulhorandi gods. You should be fine sticking with Helm.

Thank you Sundraoi. :) Your link was indeed the one I used in my reasearch. I just mistakenly stopped when I got to the Racial Gods. It was only after character creation doing some additional research that I scrolled further down and saw Mulhorandi Gods listed below those racial Gods that I said "Poop!". lol

And, nice to know the nomenclature. It will help when I interact, for certain. :)

To add some further insight into this, Thay liberated itself from Mulhorand many centuries ago and the countries have been at odds ever since, from out right war to detente where some trade can take place. To further seperate themselves from their old rulers, they took up the worship of the Faerun pantheon as opposed to the Mulhorandi pantheon. That is why you don't see many temples to their gods about Thay.

While the ruling class in Thay is Mulan, they do not make up the largest percent of the population. The Rashemi outnumber them, some as slaves and some as freemen working as merchants and what not. In Mulhorand the Mulan race makes up a sizable portion of the populace.

Ahh! Even better. In my reading that last was something I did not see or readily find. Based on my (flawed) understanding of the Kingdom of Thay, I was amazed to see all these hairy sasquatchii running around the mod. :P

Final question; in my bio I made him Mulan and the family landed, as I thought his Mulan decent would fit the kingdom better. I'm assuming a portrayal of a feeling of superiority over those who are not Mulan in Thay, but is the level of that lessened in those that are not Red Wizards?

No Mulans for the most part act smug as they are the only ones who can even attempt to become wizards. Even if of a lower house they deem themselves far superior and it would be correct to play that aspect.
