Ok, first off, I'm not posting this in the bug forum because I'm not sure if this is by design or not.
My character Honsa is a rogue, and during creation I set his deity to Mask. After a couple levels the beggar was done with him and he wandered over to the Temple of Mask and got recruited there. The recruiter told him to practice his skills or if he was more of a talker to convert people to Mask or warn them about messing with the Thieve's Guild, or both.
Cool, so I wandered around and talked to NPCs and found no conversation option for discussing Mask or religion with them. I pretty much gave up on that until the other night when I heard some other PCs discussing religion with NPC's. I looked again and couldn't find the option. I asked the player and they said I should use the player menu to select a deity, which I did and still don't see a way to engage NPCs about that.
Honsa has no cleric levels, but I'm pretty sure a couple of the PCs I saw doing this had none either, though I could be wrong. Am I missing something somehow, or is Honsa ineligible for some reason, or is this a bug?
Thanks :)

Did you actually select Mask as your patron god through the Player Menu > Player Guide > Gods & Religion? Due to the fact that really anything can be entered in the Deity field at character creation, this is a requirement to make sure that the right spelling and a valid god is in that field before you can perform deity-related 'stuff'.
If so, then reason you were able to join the 'Temple' of Mask without having selected one is because you have rogue levels...

Yep, I went thru the Player Menu two nights ago and chose Mask to make sure. Twice in fact, because I still wasn't seeing the conversation options.
It's possible that I managed to misspell "Mask" during character creation, and that I was able to join the temple b/c of my rogue levels, but I assume choosing the deity from the player menu should have fixed any spelling issue.
I hope we can fix this, as Honsa would like to do some "deity-related 'stuff'" ;)

When you go to Player Menu > Player Guide > Gods & Religion > View Forgotten Realms Gods > [Find and click on Mask from the list of gods] > Select Mask as your Patron Deity; what is the message you receive?

I'm pretty sure I didn't receive any message, which seemed odd and which is why I clicked on it twice. But let me double-check that tonight for sure. I can take a screenshot to show you what I see if you want.

OK - a screenshot would be good too. Also, do you have an item in your PC's inventory called 'Thay - Realm of the Red Wizards'?

I have the item and think I found the reason. I get a message that "Mask does not allow Ranger worshippers". I took one ranger level a few levels ago, and I guess I did that before I found this menu.
So now I'd say that this is a bug, right? Because I could have selected Mask before I took the ranger level. Or would I no longer be able to follow Mask after taking the ranger level? Because if I'd known that I wouldn't have taken it.

I will change this so rangers of less than 4th level won't have to pick a nature-based diety like Mask. However, in order to reach 4th level or higher (in ranger levels anyway) the ranger will need to renounce their worship of the god and pick a nature-based diety since that god is what gives the mid-upper level Ranger his special abilities and spells.
So while this will allow you to choose Mask now, if you want to continue growing in power as a Ranger you'll need to choose another before you'll be able to reach 4th level as a Ranger because Mask is not a nature-based deity and will not grant Rangers (or Druids) the powers and spells they would normally receive.

That makes sense to me. Thanks! :)

Nevermind. I misread the rule on this. You'll be able to select Mask permanently if you want.
