Random Thoughts: Sister Servers

It would be great to have an Eastern Faerûn super-server, and it has been mentioned before on the Bioboards about how servers should/could link to each other. But there are some pretty significant problems with that.

One of the biggest, from my point of view, is the leveling and many of the rules across the different servers are vastly different. But like Wids mentioned, I think the only way it could happen is if either all the modules come under central leadership - like either one admin taking over all of them, or the admins all getting together and agreeing to a certain set of rules across the servers. Which would probably mean a heckuva a lot of work to revise systems that the admin has probably setup the way they want them for their server (at least that how I’d feel!).

And sadly, it seems NWN is losing more players than it is bringing in nowadays, as mentioned. Maybe a kickstarter campaign to get NWN overhauled might work, but it sounds like there is tons of red tape and those who own the NWN franchise give the appearance they simply want it to go away because they don’t make any money off it anymore.

But as Carcass mentioned – we still have LOTS of Thay left to build. I’m not even looking at the full list of areas I have on the docket, but off the top of my head we have the city of Surthay, the castle of Chur Gathos, a location in the Surmarsh for a lizardfolk/dragon lair, a northern Sunrise Mountain location, a dragon lair in the Gorge of Gauros, many, many more areas for The Citadel, a place along the Alamber coast as a pirate cove or stronghold, a generic Buildings area for each of the towns/cities/castles (like what Tyraturos has), etc.

And when everything on the surface is somewhat 'finished' (there will always be more areas we can add)…well…there’s an entire realm below Thay that I would like to move on to if there still aren’t enough places to adventure in Thay. One word: Undrek’thoz

Yeah, it would be nice if the Forgotten Realms worlds were linked up, but as Thayan said, leveling and rules vary widely.

Forgotten Realms Cormyr, for instance, is significantly more difficult to level up in, and although the items available are similar to Thay (disregarding every item with a Cast Spell and feats), it's easier to acquire wealth in Thay, and then there's the enchanted forge perk we have...

Universal rules and XP regulations aren't going to be easily monitored across all the servers, and if even one of those servers has XP trigger happy DMs, there will be all sorts of massive level players crossing worlds just to trounce others, or players would leave one server to play at another for months under easier XP/gold rules, with the intention of going back to their own home world more superior than ever. (Though in that regard, thats what adventurers end up doing if converted to an IC sense.)

If someone were going to make linked worlds like this, then it'd have to start off with a hakpak or an .erf containing the predefined rules, abilities and XP, with overrides for all default scripts to match the system so that if content is added on one server, it'd still be compatible and within the rules for other servers.
